One of Slaking ex’s hindrances was its ability, which wouldn’t let it attack if the opponent had any Pokemon ex or Pokemon V in play. As Team Rocket’s Watchtower, a new Stadium card introduced in Destined Rivals, removes any Colorless Pokemon’s ability, this is no longer an issue. Slaking ex still faces issues like setting up as a Stage 2 card or the fact that its move requires it to discard an Energy. However, it is better off than it was before.

How To Play This Slaking ex and Team Rocket’s Watchtower Deck in Pokemon TCG

Ideal Starting Hand

A starting hand of Slakoth, Torchic, and Team Rocket’s Watchtower would be a good one. Buddy-Buddy Poffin is also helpful in getting any Basic Pokemon on the bench if they aren’t in your hand. Getting Slaking ex or Blaziken ex on the first turn isn’t ideal, but worth holding onto if you get a Rare Candy.

Here’s the strategy involved with this deck:

  • The goal is to set up Slaking ex so that it can sweep while Team Rocket’s Watchtower is on the field. Attach a Boomerang Energy so that its discard requirements are fulfilled.
  • Blaziken ex serves to attach any discarded Basic energy to Slaking ex if the Boomerang Energy is removed via other means. It also serves as a late game cleaner.

As a Colorless deck, Slaking ex does not do super effective damage to any other card. However, Team Rocket’s Watchtower hurts other Colorless Pokemon that are dependent on their ability, like Pidgeot ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex.

As Slaking is a Stage 2 card that needs certain requirements fulfilled before it can perform optimally, aggro decks are a threat to it. Fighting-type decks deal super effective damage to Slaking ex.
