Yanmega ex is an intriguing card introduced in the Destined Rivals expansion. It is a card designed to hit and run, with its ability letting it accumulate energy and its move causing it to move that energy to a Pokemon on the Bench.
So, a deck based around Yanmega ex must have cards that enable it to switch in and switch out as much as it can without restriction. While this is risky and can lead to defeat at the hands of unskilled players, smarter ones will be able to pull this off in style.
Pokemon TCG Best Yanmega Ex Deck Guide Overview
Yanmega ex’s ability Buzzing Boost lets it attach 3 Basic Grass Energy once it goes to the Active Spot from the Bench. It can then use its move Jet Cyclone to deal damage for three Grass Energy and a Colorless Energy.
However, it is forced to move three Energy to a Benched Pokemon as a result. So, the plan here is to have another Yanmega ex on the Bench to receive the extra energy, let it swap in on the next turn, and attack twice with Jet Cyclone back-to-back. This leads to this deck picking up momentum fast.

Ideal Starting Hand
You want Yanma and Dunsparce in your starting hand. Place Dunsparce in the Active slot so that Yanma can evolve safely on the Bench and switch in to get its ability’s benefit. The only major issue is if Yanma isn’t in your starting hand at all, delaying its offensive assault by a turn.
Best Yanmega Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG: Key Cards
The strategy for this deck is as follows:
- Yanmega ex is the attacker of this deck, switching in, getting the energy it needs to attack, and passing it on to another Yanmega ex on the Bench.
- Dudunsparce ex is a card that can be swapped in the Active Spot to enable Yanmega ex to switch in safely. Its ability, Run Away Draw, lets in draw cards while shuffling back into your deck forcing a switch.
- Several Trainer cards in this deck are there to help you switch in and out as much as you can. This includes Kieran, Prime Catcher, and Professor Turo’s Observations.
- Jet Energy is another card that provides the necessary Colorless energy for Jet Cyclone, but attaching it to a Benched Pokemon lets that card switch in to the Active spot.

Despite the high energy cost of Jet Cyclone, this deck is very fast. Also, since its damage output is pretty high for a fast deck, unprepared players are often left on the back foot. Especially Dark-type and Fighting-type decks, which are weak to Yanmega ex’s attacks.
Counters to Yanmega Ex Deck in Pokemon TCG
Similarly, fast decks can be a threat to this deck as it becomes a game of who can set up first. While Yanmega ex has a decent amount of bulk at 280 HP, Fire-type decks like Ethan’s Typhlosion can burn them down with ease.

Some things to consider while using this deck
