Dead Rails recently launched a brand new update called the Stillwater Prison update. It introduced some new content, including new ranged and AoE weapons. One of them is the Ballista. The Ballista is a turret-style weapon in the game. It requires Ballista Bolts to shoot. This article will provide a complete guide on how to unlock the Dead Rails Ballista weapon.

How To Unlock The Dead Rails Ballista

Here is a complete guide on how to unlock the Ballista in the game:

What you are looking for is the unmounted variant of the Ballista Turrets. You can find this weapon in towns or Gunsmiths outside Stillwater Prison, or obtain it through missions or purchases within the prison.

  • Towns/Gunsmith: You can search for this weapon in lootable areas like abandoned Gunsmiths or general stores in fortified towns. The Ballista is not guaranteed to spawn, so you will need to search and loot in multiple locations.
  • Missions/Purchases: Complete quests in Stillwater Prison related to the new faction or the Goliath boss to earn rewards, which may include a Ballista. You can also buy it in the General Store in Stillwater Prison.

You can also use a mounted variant of the Ballista Turret in Stillwater Prison. Look for one of the watchtowers that has it. You have to climb the watchtower. The Ballista and Ballista Bolts are located there. The Ballista is mounted and cannot be taken away, but you can use it to deal high damage (around 250 per shot) against enemies like the Goliath boss.

Note: Remember, you will need the Ballista Bolts. They come in boxes of 24. Each box costs $50.

How To Use

The Ballista is ideally a long-range weapon. A good way to use it is by mounting it on your train. Once mounted, you can take down werewolves (typically two shots) and zombies (typically one shot) with the newly acquired weapon.

There is, however, a con. The weapon has a long reload time. So, make sure your enemy is at a distance that gives you enough time to reload the Ballista Bolts to fire another round. The Ballista does not exhaust ammo quickly, and you will only need about 6 to 7 boxes at most per run.
