Master the parry, guard, and dodge mechanics in Vindictus Defying Fate. Learn strategies to effectively reduce damage and survive combat.

Guarding, parrying, and being able to dodge effectively on command are crucial strategies you will have to learn early on. The game’s combat is unforgiving, and timing is crucial. There is a mixture of both blockable and unblockable attacks, and figuring out ways to defeat your enemies while focusing on the game is important.
In this article, we will be looking at how to effectively guard, parry, and dodge in Vindictus: Defying Fate.
How To Parry, Guard and Dodge in Vindictus: Defying Fate

Guard
Guards are crucial when it comes to reducing the damage you take upon being hit. While it won’t completely nullify the effect of your opponent’s hit, it greatly reduces the impact it would have otherwise had on your overall HP. This is most effective when you are trying to understand the opponent’s fight patterns and waiting for the right opportunity to draw on them.
Parry
Parrying, on the other hand, is all about timing. It is tougher to execute in comparison to dodge, but much more rewarding. When an opponent comes flying at you in an attempt to squash you, if you time your parry well, you will be able to gift yourself an opening.
The perfect parry stuns your opponent, leaving him vulnerable and open to your attacks for a short duration of time. The time of stun depends on whether it is a boss or a normal enemy. While parrying has a great deal of advantage, mis-timing its execution could cost you dearly. If not parried in time, you would be subject to taking the full damage of the blow.
Dodge
Dodge or evasion is the third in the list. These are basically quick movements to help you sidestep an attack. Depending upon your direction of dodging, you could either create some distance and time to figure out a strategy. You could also roll in closer and attack the enemy from its blind spot.
Unlike other Souls-like games or action RPG games, there is no stamina system present in Vindictus: Defying Fate. This comes as good news, meaning you will not need to worry about draining your stamina after each roll. Exploiting this move gets easy, especially against enemies who have faster attack patterns.
Controls for Parry, Guard and Dodge
Action | Keyboard & Mouse | PlayStation | Xbox |
Dodge/Evade | Space | Circle | B |
Guard | Q | L1 | LB |
Counter Attack (After Guard) | Q > RMB | L1 > Triangle | LB > Y |
Parry | Tab | R1 | RB |

While these moves have their own perks, some moves are either unguardable or unavoidable, regardless of either defensive maneuver you attempt. These moves will be highlighted by a red or yellow light. When you see a yellow warning sign on the enemy, quickly dodge the attack. Trying to block or parry this attack will be in vain.
A red warning sign on an enemy is, however, not blockable or dodgeable in any way. Such attacks can be escaped if one is at a good distance. If you try dodging this attack, the enemy will just tilt his body even more to match your direction.
