Learn how to differentiate between poisonous and non-poisonous berries and mushrooms in PEAK to gain an advantage in each run.

Developed by Aggro Crab, PEAK is a climbing game with up to four-person co-op. As players climb to higher ground, they will notice that the hunger slowly chips away at their stamina meter, locking away an increasing portion of the bar. Foraging for and eating food gets rid of hunger and replenishes the stamina bar. The quirky guidebook found at the plane’s wreckage will advise players against eating food growing around the island, as it may be poisonous. Instead, it advises that survivors eat packaged food from trusted corporations.
Eating poisonous foods will lead to a poison debuff on the stamina meter, restricting climbing range further. The poisoned status effect will wear off after some time and can be removed using an antidote or Cure All. However, most food growing around the island and its biomes is safe to eat if you know how to identify it. Differentiating between safe and poisonous forageables is imperative to regain stamina consistently throughout a run in PEAK.
Poisonous Foods in PEAK
There are three main types of poisonous foods in PEAK: berries, mushrooms, and burnt food. Most mushroom types in the game have a poisonous and non-poisonous variant, while the berries can be identified by color. Cooking a food item more than once will cause it to be burnt and deal poison damage on consumption.
Poisonous Mushrooms

- Bugle Shroom: The Bugle Shroom looks like a light brown bugle, with a conical stem and a flower-like top. The poisonous variant has webbing where the stem meets the top and is of a lighter shade than the edible ones.
- Button Shroom: Button Shrooms look like stereotypical mushrooms, with a hemispherical top. The non-poisonous variant has a large “X” spot marking its top.
- Clusters Shroom: Cluster Shrooms consist of several small mushrooms growing in a group. The non-poisonous variant has smooth stalks, while the poisonous ones have frilly stalks.
- Chubby Shroom: Chubby Shrooms feature a stem thicker than their top. These do not have a poisonous variant, and all of them are safe to eat.
Eating all four types of non-poisonous mushrooms will complete the Mycology Patch achievement.
Poisonous Berries
Compared to mushrooms, poisonous berries are easier to distinguish from their non-poisonous counterparts. Green berries are poisonous, while red, yellow, and purple berries are safe to eat.
