Everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds’ free trial on the PS5, including how to add it to your library, contents, and more.

Monster Hunter Wilds is arguably one of the biggest releases of this year, right alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Death Stranding 2. While the game did have its fair share of issues, some of which still plague the PC version, it’s still an undeniably fun Monster Hunter experience. From its presentation to its gameplay systems, MH Wilds is a major improvement over its predecessors.
And if you’re yet to try the game out for yourself, you’re in luck. With the recent release of Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 2 (TU2), the base game has been added to the PlayStation Plus Deluxe and Premium tiers. Essentially, if you’re a PS Plus subscriber, you can play MH Wilds for free, albeit with some caveats.
Here’s everything you need to know about Monster Hunter Wilds’ free trial on PS Plus and how to add it to your library.
How To Claim Monster Hunter Wilds for Free on PS5

To get Monster Hunter Wilds for free, you need two things:
- An active PSN account, without Monster Hunter Wilds on it.
- An active PlayStation Plus Deluxe or Premium subscription.
Note that the free trial isn’t available to PlayStation Plus Essentials subscribers. Once you’ve made sure you meet the prerequisites, you need to follow these steps:
- On your console, head to the PlayStation Store on your PS5.
- From there, search for Monster Hunter Wilds.
- You will find three options to choose from – Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe. Select Standard and click on Add to Library.
- The game will be added to your PSN library.
- After that, head out of the PlayStation Store and go to your PSN library via the PS5’s dashboard.
- Scroll down the list of owned games and select Monster Hunter Wilds.
- Click on Download.
Once the download finishes, launch the game via the tile on the dashboard. The demo gives you access to the most up-to-date version of Monster Hunter Wilds. However, some limitations apply to the game that you should know before going in.
What Are the Limitations of Monster Hunter Wilds Free Trial on PS5?

Given it’s a demo, it only grants you access to 2 hours of the game. This means you will only experience the opening Low-Rank quests, and that’s it. Additionally, you won’t have access to DLC cosmetics since most unlock after reaching High Rank. The first two hours of the game are filled with cutscenes and a handful of quests. Essentially, you will get access to the Chatacabra and the Quematrice hunts.
However, if you skip through the cutscenes (which we don’t recommend doing), you can reach the Doshaguma hunt. Apart from that, you will have access to Optional Low-Rank Hunts.
However, to get access to High Rank, you must buy the full game.
Additional Notes
It should be noted that progress from the demo can be carried over to the full game. As such, the demo is a great way for new players to give Monster Hunter a shot. And if you end up liking it, you can purchase the full game and continue past your progress in the demo. Additionally, Monster Hunter Wilds is currently on sale on the PS5. Hence, it’s the best time to jump into the game if you’re still on the fence.
