Season 9 of Diablo 4 is finally here. Dubbed Sins of the Horadrim, this particular season introduces several changes, new items, and activities. One of those is Escalating Nightmares. It’s an endgame activity that will see players tackle three back-to-back dungeons in one go. As you might have guessed, clearing three endgame dungeons one after the other without any gap in between can be extremely challenging.
However, it’s an activity that’s well worth undertaking, since some of the best loot items will drop as you complete Escalating Nightmare. So, if you think you’re prepared, we’ve compiled a guide for you on how to begin playing Escalating Nightmare in Diablo 4 Season 9.
How To Begin Escalating Nightmare in Diablo 4 Season 9
You will need to consume an Escalation Sigil to begin an Escalating Nightmare in the game. This mechanic is similar to how players in Diablo 4 started Nightmare Dungeons by consuming Nightmare Sigils. However, just like in the previous instance, you’d first have to create a stockpile of Escalation Sigils in your inventory before you can begin heading into Escalating Nightmare dungeons to farm for loot and better gear. The game offers a few specific ways of getting your hands on the Escalation Sigil item.
Once you have one such Sigil, you can head into your inventory and look for it. After finding the Sigil, consume it to immediately begin with the Escalating Nightmare endgame activity. Make sure you are well prepared to handle the continuous onslaught that you’ll face in the three dungeons.

How To Farm Escalation Sigils in Diablo 4 Season 9
You’ll need a number of Escalation Sigils if you plan to look for unique items in the Escalating Nightmare in Diablo 4 Season 9. There are various ways of farming the sigils.
- Nightmare Dungeons: While completing Nightmare Dungeons, you’ll come across mini-dungeons within them, known as Horadric Strongholds. Keep in mind that you can start playing Nightmare Dungeons almost as soon as you’re done creating your character for this season. Once you clear the Horadric Strongholds within Nightmare Dungeons, you can access the Grand Horadric Cache. This special chest drops Escalation Sigils.
- Improve your Horadric Knowledge: As you increase your Horadric Knowledge by completing the seasonal questline, you will unlock more rewards at the Horadric Focus. Some of the tiers in the Horadric Focus will help you acquire Currency Caches. These caches often house Escalation Sigils, and this happens even on the lower difficulty settings.
