Dragonite has already been in Pokemon TCG Pocket for some time now. However, it received a new ex variant in the new Eevee Grove expansion released in June. This card does some of the highest damage in the game, presently.

Although it’s a difficult task to set up Dragonite ex in the first place, being a Stage two Pokemon, along with requiring two different types of energy, if you can succeed in this endeavor, you can easily knockout any Pokemon without trouble. Here is how to make and play this deck properly.

This deck relies on using the new Eevee-lution, Sylveon ex’s draw power to quickly set up Dragonite on the field. As soon as you get the required energy cost for Dragonite to start using Giga Impact, you will likely win the duel.

Although this is not the best deck, as you are effectively only using Sylveon to draw, and nothing else. The deck already uses Water and Electric energy, but adding a third type of energy would be testing your luck immensely. This is not the best deck to play in ranked, purely due to double energy, which results in some duels being lost because you did not receive the right type of energy.

  • 2x Rare Candy
  • 2x Professor’s Research

Ideal Starting Hand for Best Dragonite ex Deck

Ideally, you want a Dratini and Eevee in your starting hand, alongside Sylveon ex to evolve as soon as possible. This will increase the cards in your hand, letting you draw cards like Dragonite ex and Rare candies. Professor’s Research and Poke Ball are also never a bad choice in opening hands.

Best Dragonite ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket: Strategy

This deck relies solely on Dragonite ex, and bringing it out as quickly as you can. Sylveon ex merely exists as a trigger to support this play style. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Get Sylveon ex out as soon as possible to get extra cards to evolve Dragonite.
  • Ideally, you will want your Dragonite setup by your third turn, but this won’t be possible in every duel. You will need to play defensively and make Sylveon hold out until Dragonite hits the field.
  • The Fossil cards exist for Dragonite to retreat, then discard, so that Dragonite can use Giga Impact twice in a row.

Best Matchups for This Dragonite ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Dragonite performs well against other decks that take some time to set up. An example of this would be Darkrai and Giratina decks, which require three turns at minimum to start attacking. In an ideal match, other Stage two Pokemon will struggle to survive just from Dragonite’s 180 damage per turn.

Counters to this Dragonite ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Unfortunately, the deck has some glaring weaknesses, which can be exploited by some decks. First of these is your energy. Cards like Team Rocket Grunt or Guzzlord ex’s Grindcore can mess up your energy, leaving Dragonite ex vulnerable.

Moreover, Sylveon ex is weak to Steel types. Therefore, it will struggle to survive against most Steel type Pokemon. Solgaleo, for instance, can knock it out in one turn, while Skarmory can do it in two.

Best Dragonite ex Deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket Eevee Grove: Tips and Tricks

Here are some tips to help you play this deck optimally and efficiently:

  • You can sacrifice Sylveon to set up Dragonite ex, since if Dragonite goes down, your defeat is almost guaranteed, so it becomes worth sacrificing Sylveon to ensure that your Dragonite is ready for battle.
  • Dragonite’s retreat cost can be lessened with X Speed, so you can only pay one extra energy, and then get back the same energy on that turn. Afterwards, you can discard the Fossil card in the active zone to launch another Giga Impact. This is similar to the Buzzwole ex and Celesteela combo.
