The highly requested layered weapons feature has made its comeback, and here is how you can unlock and use it in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Monster Hunter Wilds features some of the coolest-looking weapon designs. However, these designs might not always suit your preferred outfit or lack any key stats. Since weapon stats matter more than appearance, you may often need to sacrifice your favorite weapon’s aesthetics for a better hunting experience. With Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 (TU2), you no longer have to worry about such things.
The TU2 introduced layered weapons, one of the highly requested features of the game. With the return of the fan-favorite feature, players can now enjoy full hunter fashion customization without compromising the weapon stats. Here is how you can unlock and equip the layered weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds.

How To Unlock Layered Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds

Technically, there are no requirements to unlock the layered weapons feature, as installing the title update automatically grants the option. However, you must meet certain conditions to unlock the layered weapons designs. In order to use the look of any of your favorite weapon designs as a Layered Weapon, you must fully max out a specific weapon tree. Crafting the final weapon in the weapon tree unlocks its appearance as a layered weapon for the same weapon type.
For instance, maxing out the Rathian Great Sword tree allows you to use it as a layered weapon design for any other Great Swords. For layered Artian Weapons, you need to fully reinforce the Rarity 8 weapon. You can also unlock layered Palico weapons by forging high-rank versions of those weapons.
How To Equip Layered Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds
Once you have unlocked a layered weapon design by meeting any of the above prerequisites, you can equip layered weapons at a tent or pop-up camp. Navigate to the Appearance Menu and select the Equipment Appearance option. This brings out the Layered Equipment option. Select the weapon and choose the weapon design you want to layer. This allows you to apply the favorite weapon look while also retaining the stats of your build. You can also customize your layered armor and transform your hunter into a true fashion icon.
