After a long 13-year hiatus, Konami’s signature psychological horror series has returned. Silent Hill made its spectacular comeback with the PS5 exclusive demo known as The Short Message. The series was also adapted into a mobile narrative-driven game called Silent Hill: Ascension. Silent Hill: Ascension got a lot of backlash due to its lackluster narrative. Konami then partnered with Bloober Team to develop a full-fledged Unreal Engine 5 demo of Silent Hill 2, which was a roaring success.

The next step for the series’s comeback is the full-fledged entry, Silent Hill F. Silent Hill F follows the tale of Hinako, whose hometown is covered in a mysterious fog, forcing her to fight grotesque monsters and solve deadly puzzles to survive. But what makes Silent Hill F stand out from the rest of the horror games in the market? Let’s step into the fog and discover the beauty in terror called Silent Hill F.

What Makes Silent Hill F So Special?

The first thing that stands out is that Ryukishi07, a popular visual novel writer, will be penning the narrative. Ryukishi07 has penned the popular psychological horror visual novel Higurashi: When They Cry. When They Cry has had several anime series and spinoff adaptations, which are just as good as the original visual novel. If you’re curious, you can stream Higurashi: When They Cry with a Crunchyroll subscription. You can also play the entire Higurashi series on Steam. I personally thought Higurashi: When They Cry is a masterful psychological horror series.

Another thing that makes it so special is that long time music composer and veteran of the series, Akira Yamaoka, is returning to capture the soundtrack for Silent Hill F. Yamaoka’s music cannot be described in words, and you have to hear it to believe in it. You can stream Akira Yamaoka’s music on Spotify to get a taste of what it’s like to hear something so beautiful and terrifying.

And the last thing that makes Silent Hill F so anticipated is its Japanese setting. Silent Hill since its inception, has been in an American setting. But this time, Konami will be taking on the streets of Japan to unleash terror and deliver a thought provoking narrative. After the critical success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, the franchise has some big shoes to fill. Will it deliver on its promise of finding beauty in terror? Only time will tell.
