Phoenix is a force to reckon with if you do not know how to counter her in Marvel Rivals. Here are five heroes that can bring her down.
Phoenix is the first of the two characters who have been released in Season 3 of Marvel Rivals, and she is already posing a challenge in every competitive lobby. Fortunately, there are many counters to her among the present roster of all the characters.
If you are having a hard time fighting against Phoenix while she is blazing around the battlefield, scorching her enemies with pyrokinesis, knowing her counters can be game-changing. To help you out, here’s a list of five heroes that can help you counter Phoenix and defeat her in Marvel Rivals.
Phoenix’s Counters in Marvel Rivals
If you know about the kit of the character you are facing, counter-picking in Marvel Rivals becomes quite useful. Do note that the following list of characters is based on the writer’s experience and can be quite subjective. Additionally, many factors within the match can also determine the final result, rendering counter-picking ineffectual. Having said that, here are the top five heroes who can “hard-counter” Phoenix in Marvel Rivals:
- Thing
- Hela
- Punisher
- Spider-Man
- Wolverine
1) The Thing
With the recent buff that Thing received in Season 3, he is now one of the best Vanguards that you can play against most duelists. His Jump ability can now also target enemies, whether they are on the ground or in the air. This alone renders Phoenix’s high mobility useless in front of Ben Grimm.
Another thing to note is that, like most other Vanguards, the Thing does not rely on high amounts of shield, which Phoenix is capable of melting through in mere seconds. This gives you an opportunity to 1v1 Phoenix with small bursts of shield and a high amount of base HP. Lastly, with the Thing’s jump, you can completely cancel Phoenix’s Ultimate by jumping toward her when she flies down, and still come out with over half of your health.
2) Hela
Despite having a connection with the Phoenix Force, Jean Grey isn’t safe from the Goddess of Death in Marvel Rivals. Even after three entire seasons, Hela still decimates most characters with her hitscan primary fire. Although she does require a great amount of aim control, a few well-placed shots can quickly bring down the Phoenix to ashes. Moreover, her new Team-Up ability with Venom now allows her to stay in the fight for much longer.
3) The Punisher
The Punisher is the first hero that you get to play in Marvel Rivals due to his simplicity and efficiency. Just like Hela, his hitscan projectiles allow you to consistently hit Phoenix even with her high mobility. However, Punisher’s only drawback is his low survivability, as he needs a good team that can take heat off him and let him properly focus on aiming at Phoenix whenever she appears in your sight.
4) Spider-Man
Even in Season 3, the friendly neighbourhood crime fighter is still taking on gods and immortals. Spider-Man is always a great counter-pick for any character who does not have some form of tracking projectile, which Phoenix lacks. Her AoE (Area of Effect) playstyle does not work well on Spider-Man, who can swing in quickly to deliver damage and back out of the fight in mere seconds.
5) Wolverine
The best way to fight an immortal mutant is to send another immortal mutant their way. With Wolverine’s new team-up with Phoenix, killing him is much harder than ever, as he can constantly regenerate himself alongside his natural regeneration and survivability. You can not only defeat Phoenix, but also most of her team as well, if you use your abilities properly.
Additionally, you are often going to get his team-up, as most players are going to lock Phoenix due to her being the latest character in Marvel Rivals.
