Grow a Garden introduced dinosaur pets during the new Prehistoric Event update. And with it, we got many types of dinosaurs with different traits and passive abilities; some can ram into your crop to make their progress faster, and some have unique crop-saving traits. One of the most unique ones in this list is the Ankylosaurus; it offers a rare defense against fruit thieves, making it one of the most valuable passive farming pets for multiplayer servers.

Ankylosaurus Pet Overview
The Ankylosaurus is a Mythical-tier pet in Grow a Garden, which was added to the game during the Prehistoric Event. You can only get this pet by hatching a Primal Egg, and the chance of getting it is just 1%, so it’s very rare. Its hunger level is around 40,000, meaning it can stay active for a decent amount of time before needing food. The Ankylosaurus is still obtainable, and players who manage to hatch it will gain access to its helpful passive ability called Armored Defender.
Passive Trait – Armored Defender
The Ankylosaurus’s ability is called Armored Defender. Here’s what it does:
Effect: When another player steals a fruit from your garden, there’s a chance that you will also receive that same fruit.
This makes it a great passive defensive option, especially in public servers where players frequently steal from one another. While it doesn’t prevent the theft, it gives you a chance to recover the stolen value without any retaliation.
How To Get the Ankylosaurus in Grow a Garden
The only way to get an Ankylosaurus is by hatching a Primal Egg, which has a 1% chance of hatching this pet. Here are all the current methods for obtaining a Primal Egg:
1. Exchange Pets Using the DNA Machine
To unlock this method:
- Upgrade the DNA Machine to Level 3.
- Trade any non-dinosaur pet using the Graham NPC at the Dino Eggs Stall.
- The DNA Machine will give you an egg based on RNG, sometimes a Primal Egg.
This is a gamble and may take several attempts, depending on your luck.
2. Crafting a Primal Egg
To unlock egg crafting:
- Upgrade the DNA Machine to Level 4.
- Gather the following materials:
- 1 Dinosaur Egg
- 1 Bone Blossom
- 5,500,000 Sheckles
Then:
- Head to the Crafting Table near the Prehistoric Quest stall.
- Select Primal Egg and submit all materials.
- Wait 30 minutes for the crafting to finish.
This method guarantees a Primal Egg, but you’ll still need luck to hatch the Ankylosaurus.
3. Buy a Premium Primal Egg
If available, Premium Primal Eggs can sometimes be bought during special events or in the in-game shop. These usually have better hatch odds but cost Robux or premium currency.
The Ankylosaurus is a smart pick for defensive growers. While its hatch chance is low at 1%, the Armored Defender trait makes it one of the only pets in the game with a counter-thief mechanic. If you play on competitive or public servers, it’s worth trying to hatch or craft Primal Eggs until you land this powerful pet.
