Roblox Will Now Require Age Verification for Unfiltered Chats

Roblox has announced a new age-verification process for the gaming platform. A new Trusted Connections feature is now available that prevents young Roblox users from chatting with strangers. Moving forward, users will have to go through an age-screening process and add “Trusted Connections”. Gamers who don’t meet the criteria will be unable to talk to adults on the platform.

Roblox will use an age-estimation technology built by identity verification company Persona. It is a tool that is already in use in some American states like Utah. The Friends feature on Roblox is now known as Connections. If you are over the age of 13 and are verified on Roblox, you will not experience any restrictions when communicating with others.

Users between the ages of 13 to 17 have to go through the verification process. They can only add people they know in real life who are over 18 as Trusted Connections. Users who want to be added as Trusted Connections must provide proper government-issued identification to talk to the young users.

Roblox is also allowing parents to set up multiple accounts and link them. It will allow parents to monitor all Connections and Trusted Connections. Linked accounts can also monitor playtime on Roblox, microtransaction spending, and other user stats.

How To Verify Your Age on Roblox

Roblox already has an age verification process in place. Voice chat is unavailable in many countries if you do not provide your documents and a facial scan. Here is how you can verify your age on the platform:

Go to www.roblox.com
Navigate to Settings > Accounts Info
Go to the Personal section and click on Verify My Age
Desktop users get a scannable QR code. If you are on mobile, the verification process skips this step.
Allow access to your camera
Take a photo of any government-issued ID card
Take a selfie which has to resembles the image on your ID card
Submit the images
Wait for the Age Verified checkmark in the Settings menu

The process usually takes up to five minutes, but it can take a few hours in some cases. The eligible documents vary from country to country, so make sure you check the requirements for your region.
