The gacha mechanic in Umamusume: Pretty Derby is called Scout and it allows you to pull characters through various banners. These limited-time banners are called Spotlight Scouts, introducing new characters with higher chances of appearing.

The Anime Collab banner featuring (Beyond the Horizon) Tokai Teio and (End of the Skies) Mejiro McQueen is available from July 16 to August 1. Learn about how strong these characters are in competitive play and whether you should be pulling for them.

All the aptitudes for the new Tokai Teio and Mejiro McQueen remain the same, but their stat bonuses and skills are different. This means they will perform similarly in terms of eligibility for races but differently when it comes to raw performance and synergy.

If you happen to have both versions of the same character on your team, they cannot be a part of the same racing category. Therefore, if you have the opportunity to train two versions of the same character, ensure that they specialize in different distances. Diversifying their build paths allows you to field both in Team Trials across multiple race types.

Stat Bonuses:

  • Speed (10%)
  • Stamina (10%)
  • Guts (10%)

Skills:

  • Certain Victory (Unique)
    • Increases velocity on the final straight when behind another runner towards the front.
  • Prudent Positioning
  • Soft Step
  • Preferred Position
  • Prepared to Pass (Event)
  • Hydrate (Event)
  • Stamina to Spare (Event)
  • Corner Acceleration (Event)
  • Head-To-Head (Event)
  • Spring Runner (Potential Level 2)
  • Race Planner (Potential Level 3)
  • Corner Recovery (Potential Level 4)
  • Miraculous Step (Potential Level 5)

Both characters on the Anime Collab banner have a new distribution of stat bonuses. They have a 10% bonus on three stats rather than a 20% and 10% bonus on two, like all other characters in the game so far.

In the case of (Beyond the Horizon) Tokai Teio, this is a downgrade from the regular version since 20% Speed and 10% Stamina provide greater value. The new version’s unique skill is also weaker than the original’s, as it only “increases” velocity rather than “greatly increases”.  The addition of stamina-recovering skills makes this version better at Long races after leveling up Potential.

(End of the Skies) Mejiro McQueen

Stat Bonuses:

  • Power (10%)
  • Stamina (10%)
  • Wit (10%)

Skills:

  • Legacy of the Strong (Unique)
    • When pressured by another runner and running out of stamina on the final corner or later, speed increases.
  • Straightaway Adept
  • Stamina to Spare
  • Deep Breaths
  • Early Lead (Event)
  • Calm in a Crowd (Event)
  • Prudent Positioning (Event)
  • Fall Runner (Potential Level 2)
  • Cooldown (Potential Level 3)
  • Ramp Up (Potential Level 4)
  • Beeline Burst (Potential Level 5)

The new Mejiro McQueen’s unique skill is similar to the original’s but adds an activation condition which requires remaining health to be below 70%. With Front Runner skills and a 10% bonus to Wit, the version is more suited to Front Running compared to the original.

However, with a 20% bonus to Stamina, the original is still a better pick for longer distances. Nevertheless, (End of the Skies) Mejiro McQueen remains a strong pick for Medium and Long races, encouraging a more aggressive strategy. If you’re lacking a stamina-heavy ace with a late-race burst, she may still be worth investing in.

Conclusion

The Anime Collab banner introduces new versions of Tokai Teio and Mejiro McQueen with balanced 10% stat bonuses and altered skills. While both have unique abilities, they’re slight downgrades compared to their original versions in most competitive contexts. Teio’s new version is better suited for Long races thanks to added stamina recovery, while McQueen’s new skill is more situational. Pull if you’re a fan or need more versatility in Team Trials—but they’re not must-haves for top-tier performance.
