Fight Style of Void Kong in Donkey Kong Bananza

Void Kong is a challenging boss that requires good control of your movement and rolling. He rides a small banana-shaped rock that can float in the air, making him hard to hit. During fights, he stays stationary until you catch up and hit him, then immediately flies off after each hit. His barrage of attacks can sometimes be overwhelming, as he constantly spawns rock enemies to distract you.
How To Beat Void Kong in Donkey Kong Bananza

In the game, you fight Void Kong three times — once in each phase — with him moving to different areas after you reduce his health to half. As you progress, the attacks become more challenging to dodge. Here are all three phases and how to beat them:
Phase 1:
The fight begins at the Hilltop Layer and is the easiest because Void Kong only uses simple, easy-to-dodge attacks. The main objective is to hit Void Kong and catch up to him each time he flies away to a new spot. Remember, hitting the boss resets his attack, so don’t hesitate to charge at Void Kong when he’s preparing an attack nearby.
Void Kong mainly attacks using Golden Drills that spawn near him and are thrown at you. He also occasionally spawns lasers that activate after a short delay. All attacks are telegraphed, giving you a clear indication of where they’ll hit. Dodge these attacks easily and keep hitting Void Kong until his HP drops below 50%, then he runs off to the next area.
Phase 2:
This time, you fight Void Kong in the Lagoon. He uses the environment to attack, spawning puddles or walls of purple poison that damage Donkey Kong on contact. Additionally, he now spawns various rock enemies to attack you.
Stock up on apples, which restore your health to full if it drops to zero. Poison-filled areas make traversal difficult, so avoid the poison and quickly catch up to Void Kong each time you land a hit. He escapes again once you bring his health below 50%.
Phase 3:
The final phase takes place at the Junction, where you fight Void Kong one last time. This phase involves chasing and fighting. You must dodge incoming walls of stone and poison while making your way along a narrow platform. Break the boxes with apples and balloons to help you along. Reaching the end of the platform, hit Void Kong to start climbing to the top. The boss can change the ground into different types to slow or damage you, so avoid hazards as much as possible. Void Kong spawns various enemies, which are easy to dodge.
Reaching the mountain’s top triggers a cutscene, showing Void Kong using three totems to create a shield. Break all the totems to make him vulnerable again. The totems create walls around them that block your attacks — here’s how to counter each:
- Mud Totem: Break mud walls with basic attacks.
- Lava Totem: Throw a rock at the lava wall to break it.
- White Totem: Line up a telegraphed attack from Void Kong to break the white walls.
Once all totems are destroyed, Void Kong falls and starts spawning mud walls that radiate outward. Keep breaking the walls in front of you and attack him until his health runs out. After defeating him, he runs away again but plants a seed of doubt in Pauline about her latent powers.
