Every character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby possesses different aptitudes in different running styles. There are four of these styles in the game, at least for now. One of these four is called Pace Chaser.

Skill Description: Moderately increase ability to get into a good position. (Pace Chaser)

Pace Chasers are extremely reliant on good positioning, as a lot of Pace Chaser skills require you to be near the front end of the pack. Therefore, having good positioning skills will give you some breathing room in your Wit stat.

There is an upgraded version of Pace Chaser Savvy, which increases this navigation ability even further.

Hydrate

Skill Cost: 180
Skill Description: Slightly recover endurance mid-race. (Pace Chaser)

You can never have too much endurance. Endurance and stamina recovery skills are some of the most necessary in the entire game. For this reason, Hydrate is put on this list.

This skill is only applicable to the Pace Chaser style and lets you recover your endurance during the middle phase of the race.

Skill Description: Decrease fatigue mid-race. (Pace Chaser)

This skill sounds simple, however, it has a catch you might not know about. This skill does recover your stamina, but only if you fulfill a certain condition. You need to be in the first half of the pack during the mid-race part.

If you fulfill the above condition, this skill will recover some stamina, making it crucial in longer race formats.

Speed Star

Skill Cost: 180
Skill Description: Increase ability to break out of the pack on the final corner. (Pace Chaser)

This skill is quite useful for most Pace Chaser builds. It increases your ability to break out of the rest of the pack during the final corner. This will be crucial if you want to catch any front runners.

This is a second-tier skill. It is the upgraded version of a skill called ‘Prepared to Pass’, which has a similar effect to this skill.

Technician

Skill Cost: 120
Skill Description: Moderately increase ability to navigate smoothly. (Pace Chaser)

Technician is a rare skill, which is the rare counterpart to Shrewd Step. This is another positional skill, which is great due to not having a very restrictive activation condition (outside of being limited to Pace Chasers).
