Farming gold is a simple process in Donkey Kong Bananza, and there is a good chance that players will quickly amass a small fortune partway into the game. While gold may seem like an auxiliary resource, it has several uses throughout the story that make progressing through the Layers far easier.

Stuff Shop

The Stuff Shop is your go-to location to splurge on useful consumable items. While you can find these during exploration, some consumables worth every ounce of gold are Apple Juice, Melon Juice, and Red Balloons.

Apple Juice allows DK (Donkey Kong) to revive instantly if he loses all his hearts, rather than starting from the last checkpoint. Consuming Melon Juice lets you use Bananza Powers even if the Bananergy meter isn’t full. Red Balloons are lifesavers if DK falls into a pit, and one balloon is consumed to bail him out every time he does.

Bananergy

Collecting gold fills up DK’s Bananergy meter, which allows him to use powers. Having high Bananergy allows you to quickly blaze through enemies in combat and clear levels faster.

Chip Exchange

Reaching the Hilltop Layer unlocks the Chip Exchange counter, where DK can spend Banandium Chips and gold to receive Banandium Gems. The more you use the exchange, the higher its exchange rate rises, requiring more gold with each deal until it caps out at 300 gold.

Architectone and Getaways

Getaways are small sanctuaries for DK and Pauline to rest, play music, and change their outfits. More importantly, relaxing in Getaways heals Donkey Kong and buffs him with a temporary yellow heart. However, after experiencing the free bed in the Lagoon Layer, Getaways cost gold. Starting in the Hilltop Layer, you can find Architectones willing to construct small Getaways for the right price.

Constructones and Shortcuts

Like Architectones, Constructones provide a service if they are paid enough gold. Lining their crystalline pockets will give you access to additional shortcuts within a level. While the game’s fast-travel mechanic is effective, these shortcuts can come in handy for quick traversal. They may also open up paths to challenge courses.

Growtones and Banandium Gems

Growtones are trees that serve as gold sinks and are encountered past the Canyon Layer. Offering them thousands of ounces of gold causes branches to grow, rewarding you with three Banandium Gems each time.
