Donkey Kong Bananza makes the first title in Nintendo’s long-running franchise to feature a skill tree system with skill points. It works just like any other tree, and players can access it to unlock various Regular and Ancient Skills for DK to strengthen his abilities and stats. Opening the Skill Tree is simple. It pops up automatically whenever you obtain a skill point.

However, newcomers might struggle with this if they want to go back to it later. Since Donkey Kong Bananza doesn’t explain how to reopen its skill tree, let us fill you in.

How To Open and Use the Skill Tree in Donkey Kong Bananza

As we mentioned before, whenever you earn a skill point, the game will throw a pop-up at you saying, “You got a skill point.” After that, you can choose to engage with it to bring up the skill tree and spend your points instantly. However, if you want to close it and reopen it at your leisure, then that is also possible in Donkey Kong Bananza.

To open the Skill Tree again, all you have to do is press the left Joy-Con d-pad. Once you have done so, a menu will show up with all the details regarding your skills and stat points. There, you can invest in whatever skill you prefer and customize DK your way. In addition to that, you can also access the Status menu and take a look at your attire from there by pressing the R button.

Skill points in Donkey Kong Bananza are directly tied to the Banandium Gems you find in every layer of the game, including rewards and puzzles. With every 5 of those gems, you will obtain only one skill point, and since the big banana crystals are almost everywhere, stocking up some points won’t be too hard.

Furthermore, if you are unsure of your progress, then you can check how many more Banandium Gems you need for the next skill point by looking at the bar with five bananas in the middle of the screen whenever you acquire a gem.

Respec Skills

If you feel like you have spent all of your precious skill points on the wrong skills, don’t worry, you can simply refund all of the points and start again. To reallocate your skill points, you will have to find an elder and speak to them. There are five elders in all of the layers in Donkey Kong Bananza.
