Off the Grid is an extraction shooter that’s currently in Early Access. Its futuristic premise is what sets it apart from the host of other games in the genre. In it, you can customize your loadout and use special limb attachments, which provide different effects and abilities. Currently, the game sports some Multiplayer modes, with more to be added once it exits Early Access and gets a full release. In this guide, we’ll explore the different Multiplayer modes in Off the Grid and how you can begin playing the game with your buddies.

What Are the Different Multiplayer Modes in Off the Grid?

In its Early Access phase, the game features three separate Multiplayer modes. These are Deathmatch, Battle Extraction, and Tutorial & Practice. The developers have revealed that a full-fledged campaign and Battle Royale modes will also hit the game sometime in the future. However, for now, you can only dive into the aforementioned three modes.

The first of these is the Battle Extraction, which is sort of like a Battle Royale mode, where you can play solo or with up to two friends. Besides that, the mode maintains the usual formula where you will jump out of a plane and land on a big map. Your main goal will be to survive while fighting off hostile players or squads. You’ll also have to locate loot boxes or Hexes across this map and extract these to add the items inside the boxes to your inventory.

In Deathmatch mode, it’s you versus everybody else. You cannot team up with other players in this mode, and you’ll have to survive solo. The last one is Tutorial & Practice, where you’ll learn the basics of the game. Then, you can dive into two practice arenas, with one aimed at helping you learn everything about weapon usage and the other about your cyber limbs.

How Can You Play With Friends?

If you want to team up with one or two of your friends, you can do so quite easily. The game supports cross-platform play too, which means your friends can join your game regardless of the platform they are using. Here’s how you can invite friends:

  • Step 1: From the top right corner of the menu screen, click on the Social tab. If you have a current squad, their names will reflect here.
  • Step 2: On the right-hand side, you’ll see a list of friends on the same platform who are currently active and online. You can invite these friends right away from here.
  • Step 3: If you want to play with someone who isn’t on this list, navigate to the Add Friends section.
  • Step 4: Type in their User ID and then add them to your OTG Friends list.

Once you join with a squad, you can only play the Battle Extraction mode. The other two modes will become unavailable to you unless you leave the squad and return to solo play.
