One of Summer Game Fest 2025’s most surprising reveals was 3D Realms’ upcoming co-op shooter, Painkiller. The game is essentially a reboot of the classic arcade shooter franchise that defined the 2000s PC gaming, right alongside DOOM and Duke Nukem. Painkiller is developed by Anshar Studios, who are best known for their work on the remasters of Bloober Team’s horror games, Layers of Fear and Observer.

The game essentially brings the classic gothic fantasy-inspired shooter to a more modern landscape, complete with a seamless co-op mode. The game is still a few months away from its official release date. However, pre-orders for Painkiller are already live on all platforms.

And much like any other modern release, the game comes with multiple editions and pre-order bonuses. Here’s everything you need to know about Painkiller’s pre-order details, including its editions, pricing, and more.

Painkiller Release Date and Platforms

Painkiller is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2025. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC (Steam). Although there is a Deluxe Edition of Painkiller, it doesn’t offer any early access incentive for pre-ordering.

The game is being published by 3D Realms and Saber Interactive. However, development is handled by Anshar Studios. Furthermore, this is also the very first title that Anshar Studios is developing on their own without any other studio’s collaboration. Considering Ashar Studio’s work on the recent Layers of Fear remaster, Painkiller seems to be in good hands.

The Standard Edition costs $40 and comes with the base game and pre-order bonuses. On the other hand, the Deluxe Edition is priced at $50. However, for the extra $10, the Deluxe Edition offers the game’s Season Pass, which grants players access to all future content and DLCs. Here’s a rundown of the different editions and contents of Painkiller:
