With the Flamefete Festival, Capcom has added a ton of new content to Monster Hunter Wilds, from Event Quest to unlockable outfits. However, among the many things added to the game, perhaps the most important is the new exclusive gesture, Water Gun. Similar to the Final Fantasy XIV gesture in Monster Hunter World, the Water Gun gesture in MH Wilds is incredibly unique.

Equipping the gesture essentially gives you access to a, well, Water Gun. Although the Water Gun is meant to be used for mini-games and post-hunt celebrations in the Grand Hub. But what if you want to use it for other purposes? What if you want to use the Water Gun as the “fifteenth weapon” and hunt Zoh Shia using it?

And is it possible to complete an endgame High Rank hunt using what is essentially a toy in Monster Hunter Wilds? Let’s find out in this article.

How To Unlock the Water Gun in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Unlocking the Water Gun gesture is very simple; you just need to make sure you log into Monster Hunter Wilds during the ongoing Flamefete Festival. You can find out a complete catalog of new content and Event Quests available during the Flamefete Festival here.

Once you’ve logged into the game during the Festival of Accord, you simply need to navigate to your Communication menu and then to your Radial Menu to get access to the Water Gun gesture.

You can equip the gesture in your Radial Menu shortcut to access it instantly. What’s even better about the Water Gun gesture is that you can even use it outside of the Grand Hub. Given it’s a Gesture, it doesn’t do any physical damage.

Firing the Water Gun at other Hunters, Palico, or even smaller Endemic Life simply staggers them. However, using the gesture on Large Monsters does not affect them whatsoever. Not even the Chatacabra or the Quematrice are affected by the splashes of water from the gesture. However, since the Water Gun fires, well, water, it can do elemental damage. And that is precisely what some players have managed to use to defeat Zoh Shia.

Is It Possible To Defeat Zoh Shia Using the Water Gun?

On paper, yes, it is very much possible to defeat Zoh Shia using the Water Gun. However, that doesn’t mean you can use it against other monsters. There’s a very specific fact that makes the gesture effective against Zoh Shia, that being the elemental crystals.

You see, during the battle against Zoh Shia, the monster periodically creates Wylk Crystals around it and the arena. Ideally, you’re meant to use the elemental properties of your weapon or the Slinger Ammo to detonate the crystals.

Doing so at the right time can deal a ton of damage to Zoh Shia. What’s really interesting here is that the Wylk Crystals can be destroyed using any form of elemental damage.

And since the Water Gun can fire Water, it also counts as a form of elemental damage and can detonate the Wylk Crystals. This is precisely what YouTuber RD’s Gaming used to defeat Zoh Shia.

That said, while it is possible to slay Zoh Shia using the Water Gun, it’s naturally not an easy undertaking. Even with the perfectly planned (and executed) run, it took RD’s Gaming more than 35 minutes to defeat the monster. This is because of two factors – Zoh Shia’s enormous HP and Wylk Crystals being the only source of damage.

As such, unless you’re planning to do a challenge run or are extremely bored while playing MH Wilds, we won’t really recommend using the Water Gun against Zoh Shia.
