Learn how to free yourself from a cactus in PEAK’s Mesa biome and use the thorny plant’s Prickleberries for survival.

The Mesa is a desert biome forested with cacti, bisected by the Canyon, and interspersed with capybara pools. Serving as PEAK’s third level, it randomly replaces the Alpine and contrasts the biome’s cold winds and snow with its scorching sun and sands. The Mesa’s challenges go beyond its tricky terrain, as the very vegetation seems out to get you.
Coming into contact with a cactus impales the scout on it, embedding thorns into their limbs and causing damage even if the unfortunate adventurer manages to pry themselves free. The tornadoes and tumbleweeds rolling through the map compound the cactus problem, as they knock players into the thorny plants, bringing about an undignified end to the playthrough.
PEAK: How To Free Yourself From a Cactus

Even touching a cactus in PEAK’s Mesa biome will glue you to it and quickly accumulate thorn damage. To remove yourself from a cactus’ grasp, point your cursor at the cactus and press right-click. You will be free of the cactus, but its thorns will continue to stick to you.
To free yourself from the thorns, look at each one in turn and hold the interact button (E) to remove them. You can cling to a rock to get a better view of each limb to remove the thorns. If there are a few teammates around, they can help remove thorns faster. If the damage isn’t severe or there’s no time, keep moving, and the thorns will fall off shortly.
PEAK: How To Use Prickleberries

Some cacti may have a Red or Gold Prickleberry attached to them. The Prickleberries are food items with a sharp taste. Eating a Prickleberry will reduce your hunger at the cost of dealing thorn damage to the health bar.
However, the damage caused by thorns when eating Prickleberries heals quickly. Use them to satiate your hunger when the majority of your health bar is intact. If you eat them at low health, the thorn damage will temporarily hinder your climbing ability.
To get a Prickleberry, approach the cactus it’s growing on without touching the thorny plant, and press the interact button (E) on the berry. There is no difference between the properties of Gold and Red Prickleberries. You can safely store Prickleberries and use them at a later time when your hunger increases.
