With mainline Monster Hunter games, Capcom has always experimented a lot when it comes to Event Quests, and Monster Hunter Wilds is no exception to this rule. The biggest events usually amount to collaborations between other Capcom IPs or, at times, even third-party franchises, a la Final Fantasy 14. However, at the same time, Monster Hunter Wilds also features other Event Quests, which aren’t tied to collaborations, but nonetheless, offer unique rewards. One such quest is Hungry for Ore?, which rewards you with event-exclusive Sword and Shield and Long Sword.

In this article, we are going to focus on the Sword and Shield, the Mining Pickaxe. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mining Pickaxe in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to obtain it.

For the Mining Pickaxe, you need to complete the Hungry for Ore? Event Quest. It’s a limited-time quest that’s available for a week, and sees you face off against two Tempered Gravios. Once you finish the quest, you will be rewarded with a Worn Pickaxe, alongside Gravios material and Artian Parts. Using the Worn Pickaxe, you will be able to craft the Mining Pickaxe. It should be noted that Hungry for Ore? is an 8-star quest; as such, its difficulty is scaled according to that. Furthermore, the quest can be completed in co-op, at the cost of adding to the monster’s total HP.

Do note that crafting the Mining Pickaxe requires two Worn Pickaxes. Completing the Event Quest has a chance of rewarding you with multiple Worn Pickaxes; however, the probability of that happening is fairly low. As such, to get enough Worn Pickaxes to craft the Mining Pickaxe, you will have to complete the event multiple times.

Here’s a list of all the necessary resources needed to craft the Mining Pickaxe (Rarity 7) and Digmore War Pickaxe (Rarity 8):

Mining Pickaxe

  • Worn Pickaxe x2
  • Gravios Carapace x4
  • Carbalite Ore x10
  • Firecell Stone x1

Digmore War Pickaxe

  • Hunter Symbol III x5
  • Worn Pickaxe x1
  • Gravios Medulla x1
  • Fulcium Ore x10

How To Defeat Tempered Gravios in the Hungry for Ore Event Quest

Gravios is already an incredibly challenging monster to deal with, simply due to the amount of defense it has. This is doubly true for the Tempered variant, which is harder to wound and can dish out attacks at greater frequency. However, you can easily overpower the monster with elemental damage. Ideally, you want to use Switch Axe or Charge Blade against Gravios. However, with the recent update, even the slower weapons like the Great Sword have received a boost in elemental damage.

The recommended elements/status are Dragon, Ice, Blast, and Paralysis.
