As a new player, you might have some trouble understanding how healing in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater works. The new game is a remake that mostly stays true to the source material. The developers have kept most gameplay mechanics unchanged from the original, which instantly makes it a familiar experience for returning players.

However, if you haven’t played Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater before and you jump into Delta Snake Eater straightaway, it might take some time to get comfortable with the unique systems. When it comes to healing, the game gives you three different ways to do so. Let’s take a detailed look at what these are.

How Does Healing in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater Work?

The three primary ways of healing Snake in the game are:

  • Slow healing by expending stamina
  • Healing with items
  • Secret radio frequency healing

Now, let’s dive into what these are, and how you can use them when Snake is in desperate need to regain his HP.

Slow Healing by Expending Stamina

As soon as you start playing, you will notice that Snake has a small bar that represents his health. Just underneath is a longer bar that shows his total Stamina. When Snake is hurt, the Stamina bar starts to pulse. This indicates that Snake is actively using his Stamina reserves to regain HP. If you wait long enough, you can recover whatever health has been drained this way, but at a slow pace.

However, keep in mind that this process only works when Snake has sufficient Stamina remaining. Over time, he will lose his Stamina reserves. You can only gain it back by making sure he consumes food after significant Stamina drain. Snake can hunt smaller animals in the wilderness when he’s running low on Stamina, or you can find food inside enemy camps or other locations.

In some cases, when Snake has endured a serious wound such as a broken bone or poisoning, his Stamina bar will be lowered. You need to cure such injuries as quickly as you can to restore the Stamina bar to its original size. Find medical supplies inside buildings or compounds to take care of these issues.

Healing With Items

As you progress through the game, you will start to pick up an item called LF Med. You’ll mostly find these through exploration or when shaking down enemies. This item helps you recover a large chunk of your HP instantly. Once you’ve picked up an LF Med, simply go into your item equip screen and scroll through the items to find it. After selecting it, press A on Xbox or X on PS5 to consume it. You can carry up to 10 LF Meds at once.

LF Meds are rare items, and you don’t want to waste them unnecessarily. Make sure you only use them when you don’t have the opportunity to simply hide and recover your HP by using your Stamina. For instance, during boss fights, you’ll be under constant fire, and the Stamina healing method won’t be viable. In all other scenarios, it is better to take a step back when Snake is hurt and let his health recover slowly and gradually.

Secret Radio Frequency Healing

You might not even know about this healing method as a beginner in the game. This secret form of healing in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is revealed when you sneak up on guards and interrogate them. Some guards will share relaxing radio frequencies with you. Snake can then open his Codec Radio Frequency and input those manually.

Listening to these relaxing radio stations can help him recover Stamina without consuming any food items. With a partially refilled Stamina gauge, Snake can recover at least part of his health. This is a great option during emergencies when you don’t have the opportunity to forage for food but need immediate HP recovery.
