The Warrior build in Path of Exile 2 is a hard-hitting melee build that throws you up close and personal against the monsters you face. This class hits like a truck and appears formidable, but playing up close often leaves you vulnerable to massive swarms. Therefore, being optimal with your Warrior build is necessary, especially if it’s a League-starter build in Patch 0.3.0.

There are a ton of things you have to keep in mind when making a League-starter Warrior Build in Path of Exile 2. You have to select the right Skill Gems and then augment them with the appropriate Support Gems. Then, you have to pick the right Passives from POE2’s MASSIVE skill tree. If that wasn’t enough, you then have to cap the whole thing off with the right gear.

There’s a lot to consider, and we’re going to help you build your Patch 0.3.0 League-starter Warrior piece by piece with this guide.

Warrior Skills, Support, and Spirit Gems in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0

We’ll use the following skills in our Warrior Build for Patch 0.3.0:

  • Boneshatter: Concentrated Effect, Impact Shockwave
  • Rolling Slam: Overpower, Martial Tempo,
  • Infernal Cry: Premeditation, Tireless

Skills Gems

Rolling Slam is a skill you acquire right at the beginning, and it will serve you well throughout. This skill allows you to slam the ground twice, stunning enemies in the process. Once you’ve built up the stun meter on the enemy, the Boneshatter skill comes into play. With Boneshatter, enemies glow when on the brink of a Heavy Stun. If you strike them with Boneshatter, then you will inflict a Heavy Stun, and the enemies will collapse, sending a shockwave in the area.

Once you unlock an Uncut Skill Gem Level 3, you can then use it to acquire the Infernal Cry. This skill sees you letting out a Warcry, which then empowers your next attack and destabilizes all enemies in the Warcry’s radius. This skill VASTLY increases your damage output, and you’ll be one-shotting enemies more often than not.

As you progress through the game and make your way into the later acts, you’ll also be able to acquire the Perfect Strike. While not necessary for this build, this skill allows you to one-shot almost every enemy you face and three to four-shot almost all bosses. This skill allows you to charge up your weapon while channeling. Once fully charged, you can then release it to unleash a wave of fire on your enemies. If you time this attack correctly, you can deal a greater degree of damage.

To time the attack correctly, keep your eyes peeled on the ring of fire around the weapon itself. As you charge, the ring will get smaller and smaller, eventually shrinking into the weapon itself. At the exact second you see the circle disappear, release the attack. This will unleash a stronger variant of the Perfect Strike, letting you deal far greater damage to enemies.

If you’re unsure of whether you’re timing the attack correctly, keep watch on the enemy’s HP. Whenever you time the attack correctly, you’re likely to eat away a quarter of the boss’s HP bar. If it is a regular enemy, it is a one-shot scenario. Yes, this attack is that powerful.

Support Gems

To improve the effectiveness of the Rolling Slam+Boneshatter combo, we’ll pair up the Rolling Slam with the Overpower Support Gem. This gem will increase the skill’s stun potential by 50 percent. Next, we’ll increase the speed of the attack by 20 percent with Martial Tempo.

To improve the potency of the Boneshatter skill, we shall use the Impact Shockwave Support Gem. This gem will add an aftershock to the skill, improving the overall damage output you get from it. If you’re struggling against a boss, we also recommend adding the Concentrated Effect gem to Boneshatter. This will further increase your damage by 30 percent, but at the cost of its AOE potential.

To empower your Infernal Cry further, we recommend picking up the Premeditation Support Gem. This skill increases your damage by another 15 percent and can make all the difference in a difficult boss fight. Then, we’ll secure our Empowerment effect with the Tireless Support Gem. This skill will preserve the Empowered effect, granting a 30 percent chance to not lower Empowerment count.

Spirit Gems

As you progress through the game and pass through Act 1, you will then be able to acquire a Spirit Gem. The Spirit Gem we recommend picking is the Herald of Ash. The Herald of Ash Spirit Gem allows you to cause explosions whenever you sufficiently Overkill enemies. This turns mobs into dynamite for you to explode and is one of the most effective ways of clearing crowds.

How To Use the Skills, Support, and Spirit Gems

Now that you know what gems to acquire, how exactly do you go about using them? Well, the first thing you need to use is the Rolling Slam. You’ll use this attack to kill most enemies and stun the ones who survive. Once the enemies are on the brink of a stun, they’ll glow, prompting you to use the Boneshatter. This will Heavy Stun the enemies and let out a shockwave to clear the area. The enemies you Overkill will also explode, courtesy of the Herald of Ash, which will make mobs easier to deal with.

Should the enemy persist even after that, you then need to use your Infernal Cry. This will make your subsequent attacks stronger, and you can then use the Rolling Slam again on it to one-shot the boss with whatever health they have left. This loop will help you shred all the enemies who stand before you in the game. Keep leveling up your skills to ensure they’re up to par for the enemies you face later in the game.

If you took our advice and picked up the Perfect Strike, you can also use that skill as the ace up your sleeve against bosses. Charge your weapon with the attack and dish it out on bosses. This skill is best used against bosses and isn’t worth the mana loss against mobs. It’ll fit anywhere in the combo chain when up against a boss.

Warrior Build Passive Tree Setup for Patch 0.3.0

Invest into the Damage-type skills (Source: Grinding Gear Games)

As far as the Passive tree and its nodes are concerned, you need to follow the Damage path. Select and apply Passive nodes that increase your melee damage, Fire damage, chance to ignite, etc. You want to deal as much damage as possible, which will then allow you to one-shot mobs and bosses. There’s no strict path to follow here; just follow the Damage trail and keep increasing it.

Gear for the Warrior Build in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.3.0

The final piece of the puzzle needed to create the perfect League-starter Warrior build is the gear itself. You need to look for the following stats in the gear pieces you equip:

  • Helmet: Armor
  • Amulet: HP
  • Chest: Armor
  • Gloves: Armor
  • Rings: Mana Regen
  • Belt: HP/Mana Regen
  • Boots: HP Regen
  • Weapon: Attack Speed or Melee Skill boost

As you saw earlier in the guide, we’re focusing our Passives on Damage. This means we’ll essentially be a glass cannon if we don’t invest in Armor. Therefore, you need to prioritize Armor and HP wherever you can with your gear. Stick to these general guidelines to make the most of your build.
