Is Silksong Harder Than Hollow Knight?

Hollow Knight Silksong might just prove to be harder than its predecessor, which is already a high enough bar to cross.

The prequel was already famous for its difficulty, and this seems to have been turned up even more in Silksong. The original game had some iconic challenges and bosses like the Path of Pain and Absolute Radiance.

However, Silksong might be even harder than Hollow Knight. This is due to various factors which will be discussed below.

Silksong Harder Than Hollow Knight? Difficulty Compared

The initial region for Silksong is called Mosslands. This is extremely similar in ambience to the original’s Greenpath. However, this area is quite short and only serves as a tutorial area of sorts.

Immediately afterwards, you’re thrown into the Marrow. The difficulty suddenly climbs as some enemies already start doing two masks of damage. Compared to the original Hollow Knight, where this was quite rare in the beginning.

Another major factor that comes into play to add to the difficulty is the downward attack. The pogo strategy, which was used in the original game to bounce atop enemy heads, is largely gone in this game. This is because Hornet cannot attack vertically downwards. Instead, the dash goes diagonally downwards.

Lastly, you might find the game harder due to the introduction of more systems like Crests and Tools, which can be further upgraded with the Crafting Kit. Overall, these factors combined make the combat significantly more difficult.

Is Combat the Only Harder Part of Silksong?

Although Hornet has a higher movement speed and more movement options compared to the Knight, this makes platforming fast and more dangerous. You have a higher chance of overshooting gaps.

Moreover, the previously mentioned ‘pogo’ also comes into play here. Hollow Knight had areas where you would have to pogo on top of spinning blades and spikes. With Hornet, you must utilize the much harder mechanic to get across areas.

(Note: Although this disadvantage is somewhat mitigated by Hornet’s ability to dash and lunge over large distances using various abilities.)

Therefore, you can see that in both combat and movement aspects, Silksong seems to be more difficult than its predecessor. This perception might change based on the later endgame and hidden bosses, which haven’t been discovered yet.

However, for now, Silksong looks to be harder than Hollow Knight. Did you find Silksong more challenging than the original?
