Fans would be delighted to know that both the file size and the preload time for Borderlands 4 have been revealed. Furthermore, from the looks of it, it seems that Gearbox Software has done a remarkable job of optimizing the latest entry as well as compressing its file size.

In this article, we will discuss both of them, including how much space the game takes, its preload time, as well as some of its issues. Borderlands 4 has an official release date of September 12, 2025, for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. However, some fans in specific regions will get to play the game one day early.

Game Size and Preload Time of Borderlands 4

Reports from PlayStation Game Size suggest that Borderlands 4 has a 28.168 GB file size for PlayStation, while the Xbox edition holds a slightly heavier number of 29.5 GB. However, it is far bigger for PC players, as they have to make sure that they have at least 65 GB free in their system to enjoy the latest installment in the Borderlands franchise.

The significantly smaller file size for both the consoles has naturally surprised many fans. Yes, it is true that PC users do not get such privileges and will have to tolerate a bigger downloadable file size, but the ability to expand the storage of their systems should save them from running out of space.

Additionally, the Preload date for Borderlands 2 was September 10. Which means that it is open as of now, and gamers who are ready to install the game are free to do so.

Borderlands Preloading Issue on Steam

However, for unknown reasons, many users have complained that they have not yet received a preload option in Steam as of yet. A possible reason for this could be the slightly different release date for different regions and the confusion and conflict it brings.

Hopefully, the developers will fix this issue before the game hits the market. But since it releases in less than 24 hours, it is unlikely that some of the Steam users will get the option before it is too late. Other than that, if some PC players want to play the game with their friends via crossplay, they will have to wait after preloading, since the console version of the game is set to release a day after the PC release, on September 12, 2025.
