While exploring the areas in the Citadel in Hollow Knight Silksong, you will occasionally encounter some Cogheart pieces that you can pick up. Collecting all the pieces will form the full Cogheart. However, the game does not explain the purpose of this item. All you have are some cryptic hints to work with. Needless to say, it can be confusing.
The Cogheart pieces in Hollow Knight Silksong are required to power up the Sentinel inside the Citadel area. With that said, let’s go over the process of where you can find all of them and how to use them in the game.

All Cogheart Piece Locations in Hollow Knight Silksong
You need a total of three Cogheart pieces to form the full heart in Hollow Knight Silksong. Each piece is locked behind a puzzle where you need to memorize the rhythm of the bells. You must hit the bells in the order indicated by the puzzle for the mechanism to unlock. Keep in mind that you need the Faydown Cloak, also known as the Double Jump ability, to reach the locations of these puzzles.
The first Cogheart piece puzzle is on the left side of the Choral Chambers. You will need to ascend vertically until you reach the second entry point.
The second Cogheart is north of the Choral Chambers, just above where you can find the vaults. You will need to ascend to the path above the area. Once there, move to the farthest right door. Keep moving right until you reach the puzzle room.
The last Cogheart piece is in the Whispering Vaults. You will need to go all the way down to the deepest part of the map. Once there, head to the right-side door to access the puzzle room.

How To Use Cogheart in Hollow Knight Silksong
Once you have all three Cogheart pieces, they will form the full Cogheart that you can place on a Sentinel. Head to the Cogwork Core and inspect the idle automaton. Place the Cogheart in and watch the Sentinel fly away.
The Sentinel will roam around the Citadel, fighting enemies it encounters. It is also tied to a quest titled Final Audience, found on the wish board of Songclave.
