Mega Evolution is returning to the Pokemon TCG with the Mega Brave/ Mega Symphonia expansion. This set has already been released in Japan, and with the City Leagues starting up there, we have seen some of these Mega Evolution Pokemon cards in play. So let’s take a look at them in this article.

5 Mega Evolution Pokemon Cards That Could Be Really Good

These Mege Evolution Pokemon cards are doing really well in Japan’s City Leagues:

  • Mega Lucario ex
  • Mega Venusaur ex
  • Mega Diancie ex
  • Mega Manectric ex
  • Mega Mawile ex

1) Mega Lucario Ex

Mega Lucario ex is poised to dominate thanks to its ability to deal decent damage very quickly with both its moves. However, its first move, Aura Jab, also lets you attach three Fighting Energy from your discard pile to any of your Benched Pokemon.

This gives it amazing synergy with fellow Fighting-type cards from the Mega Brave expansion, Hariyama, Solrock, and Lunatone. Hariyama deals a massive 210 damage for three Fighting Energy, while Lunatone lets you draw three cards if you discard a Basic Fighting Energy from your hand.

2) Mega Venusaur Ex

Remember Ray Chen’s Toedscruel ex deck? Well, it has a new ally in Mega Venusaur ex. Thanks to its Solar Trans ability, it can move a Grass Energy from one Pokemon on your side of the field to another as often as you want. And if it chooses to move that Energy to itself, it can use its 240 base power move Jungle Dump, which also heals it.

3) Mega Diancie Ex

Mega Diancie ex has joined the list of powerful Psychic-types that work alongside Gardevoir ex. One of the biggest advantages of Mega Diancie ex is the fact that it’s a Basic Pokemon and can be played immediately. Its ability Diamond Coat reduces the damage it takes by 30, which improves its longevity. And its move, Garland Ray, deals up to 240 damage, making it an effective late-game cleaner.

4) Mega Manectric Ex

While Zekrom ex decks already show off the power of Lightning-type Pokemon, Mega Manectric ex takes it a step further. Its first move, Flash Ray, prevents all damage done to it by Basic Pokemon while dealing 120 damage.

However, it becomes even more threatening owing to its move Riot Blaster, which can deal up to 330 damage if all of the Lightning Energy attached to it is discarded. Since Eelektrik from Black Bolt or Magenton from Surging Sparks makes it easy to recover that Lightning Energy, Riot Blaster is surprisingly spammable for such a powerful move.

5) Mega Mawile Ex

Mega Mawile ex has seen success on a rather niche type of deck, Archaludon ex. While Archaludon ex has always had potential, its passivity made it a relatively less appealing option overall. That has changed with the arrival of Mega Mawile ex. Mega Mawile ex loves the extra Metal Energy that Archaludon ex can attach to it

Additionally, just like Mega Diancie ex, as a Basic Pokemon, Mega Mawile ex can be played immediately. Finally, this card gets more powerful the longer the match goes on and the more Prizes you take. Its move Gobble Up does 80 damage for each Prize card you take, giving it a potential base damage output of 400.
