The Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and Radeon RX 7800 XT are decent gaming GPUs for 1440p gaming, but which is better, and which one should you buy?

The Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is designed to deliver decent 1440p gaming performance on a budget. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7800 XT delivers a premium 1440p gaming experience, but it is a bit older in 2025. Can the new RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB beat the older GPU? That’s exactly what we plan to find out in this article with a detailed comparison of the two GPUs. Read on to learn more.

Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB vs Radeon RX 7800 XT: Detailed Comparison
The RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB is based on the newer Nvidia Blackwell architecture and supports all the new features, such as Neural Rendering, DLSS MFG, and more. Its ray tracing performance is also quite decent. However, the Radeon RX 7800 XT is designed on the RDNA 3 architecture, which is a bit older now and doesn’t have great ray tracing performance.
Specs Comparison

Here are the specs of the Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB and Radeon RX 7800 XT:
Specifications | Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB | AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT |
---|---|---|
Architecture | Blackwell | RDNA 3 |
Shader cores | 4608 | 3840 |
RT cores | 36 | 60 |
TMUs | 144 | 240 |
ROPs | 48 | 96 |
Base core clock speeds | 2407 MHz | 1295 MHz |
Boost core clock speeds | 2572 MHz | 2430 MHz |
Memory capacity | 16GB GDDR7 | 16GB GDDR6 |
Memory bus width | 128-bit | 256-bit |
Memory bandwidth | 448.0 GB/s | 624.1 GB/s |
Manufacturing node | 5nm | 5nm, 6nm |
Thermal design power (TDPs) | 180W | 263W |
The Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB has more shader cores and higher clock speeds than the Radeon RX 7800 XT, but the latter has more TMUs, ROPs, memory bandwidth, and even RT cores. However, the ray tracing performance will still be better in the RTX 5060 Ti. This is one area where Nvidia dominates. But enough about specs, it’s time we look at some actual performance differences between the two GPUs. We will also examine RT performance.
Performance Comparison
Here’s how Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB and Radeon RX 7800 XT perform in actual games:
Games | Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB | AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT |
---|---|---|
Black Myth Wukong | 36 FPS | 34 FPS |
Cyberpunk 2077 | 64 FPS | 74 FPS |
Cyberpunk 2077 (RT + DLSS/FSR Quality) | 57 FPS | 49 FPS |
Ghost of Tsushima | 52 FPS | 72 FPS |
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 | 48 FPS | 49 FPS |
The Last of Us Part II | 67 FPS | 68 FPS |
Forza Horizon 5 | 97 FPS | 133 FPS |
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 | 42 FPS | 37 FPS |
Horizon Forbidden West | 67 FPS | 80 FPS |
Red Dead Redemption 2 | 71 FPS | 92 FPS |
God of War Ragnarok | 90 FPS | 103 FPS |
Note: The two GPUs tested here were evaluated at a 1440p resolution with High/Ultra settings, unless otherwise specified. All the FPS numbers were sourced from the Testing Games channel on YouTube. For the tests, the two graphics cards were paired with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU.
On average, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT performed 14.4% better than the Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB in the 10 tested games. However, there are some caveats. The RTX 5060 Ti either won or tied in some Nvidia-sponsored games, such as Black Myth Wukong, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The RTX GPU also won in RT, which was not really a surprise. However, the Radeon card won in every other game by a significant margin.
Price Comparison
The Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB sells for around $429 on Amazon. On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7800 XT is currently selling for around $549 on Amazon. The price of the Radeon GPU caught us off guard. That’s because it was originally launched for $499. It did go down a bit in pricing last year, but it has now risen above the MSRP. This makes the Radeon GPU around 28% more expensive, effectively erasing its value perspective.
Final Verdict on Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB vs Radeon RX 7800 XT

The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is overall around 14% better than the Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, but the latter also won in a few games and in ray tracing. Therefore, it’s not a clean victory for the Radeon card. On top of that, the Radeon RX 7800 XT is also around 28% more expensive. While the Radeon GPU is better overall, we have no option but to recommend users go with the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB instead. We can only recommend the Radeon GPU if it drops below $430.
