Dying Light The Beast’s marketing and promotional material focused heavily on the Chimera bosses you’ll face in the game, and The Reaper is the first among this gauntlet. Bearing a large Hulk-like frame, The Reaper is deceptively fast and uses his speed to dish out high damage.

Beating The Reaper is no easy task, and the fight becomes even tougher when the boss escalates the challenge in Phase 2. If you’re struggling to defeat The Reaper in Dying Light The Beast, this guide should help.

Where To Find The Reaper in Dying Light The Beast?

You encounter The Reaper Chimera boss during the Safe Haven quest in Dying Light The Beast. This is the second main story quest in the game and requires you to clear out a monastery at Olivia’s request. As you make your way through the monastery and talk to Olivia, you hear a loud roar from the courtyard. Crane then jumps into the courtyard mid-cutscene, and the boss fight begins once the cutscene ends. You cannot miss this boss fight, so there is no need to worry.

The Reaper begins the boss fight by charging straight at you. If you haven’t mastered dodging yet, this fight will force you to. Dodge sideways to avoid taking damage. Do not dodge forward or backward, or you’ll get punished heavily.

When the boss crashes into a pillar behind you, immediately strike his back a few times. Make sure to equip the blade Olivia handed you in the cutscene just before the fight. It’s not automatically equipped, so you’ll need to cycle through your weapons to find it.

Up close, the boss mainly uses a few melee strikes, with his one-two combo being the most common. Stay just out of reach to avoid the strikes, then immediately punish after the second swing.

The Reaper can absorb a lot of damage, but if you’ve cleared all enemies up to this point, your Beast Mode meter will be nearly full. Land a few strikes to fill it completely, activate Beast Mode, and rapidly attack to take down half of his HP bar.

Once you cut the boss’s HP in half, he enters Phase 2. In this phase, The Reaper becomes more aggressive and gives you little breathing room. To make matters worse, you also have to fend off a small horde of zombies alongside him. The trick here is to dodge all the boss’s attacks while farming the zombies to refill the Beast meter. After clearing the zombies, enter Beast Mode once again and use the enhanced damage to finish the fight.
