In the fast-action-packed world of Hollow Knight Silksong, every weapon in Hornet’s arsenal plays a vital role. However, there are some Tools, like the Fractured Mask, that stand out among them for their impactful effects. These items greatly influence the way you play the game and can make Hornet’s journey in Pharloom a little less punishing.
Fractured Mask is an important defensive item in Hornet’s toolkit that gives her a second wind ability. It blocks an instance of lethal damage and nullifies it while giving you a chance to either fight or flee. But like most Tools in Hollow Knight Silksong, the Fractured Mask is an optional item and easily missable.
Here’s a breakdown of how to get the Fractured Mask in Hollow Knight Silksong for Hornet.
How To Get the Fractured Mask Tool in Hollow Knight Silksong
You can only purchase the Fractured Mask Tool from a merchant called Mottled Skarr in Act I of the game. However, even to get to Mottled Skarr in the first Act isn’t so straightforward. You will have to go through multiple secrets and need to unlock the Drifter’s Cloak already. Follow these steps to reach Mottled Skarr in Hunter’s March.
- Head to the area north of the Deep Docks in Hunter’s March, right above the air currents.
- If you have the Drifter’s Cloak unlocked, the air current will propel Hornet into the air to another area.
- From there, head east until you come across a breakable wall.
- Destroy the wall and head further east while avoiding the environmental hazards to encounter Mottled Skarr.
Mottled Skarr will sell the Fractured Mask for 260 Rosaries, along with Curveclaw and Shard Bundle for 140 and 50 Rosaries each.
How Does the Fractured Mask Tool Work
As per its item description, the Fractured Mask protects Hornet from critical damage but shatters while doing so. Now this can work in two ways, either by blocking critical hits or by nullifying lethal damage completely. Critical hits are moves that do more than one instance of damage to Hornet. Once shattered, the Fractured Mask can be repaired anytime by resting on a bench.
Finally, once the first arc of the story is complete, Mottled Skarr will die. This blocks you from obtaining the mask for the rest of the playthrough, as he will not leave it behind. You will either have to start a new game or load a saved game from before completing Act I.
