EA’s Skate currently features two different currencies: San Van Bucks and Rip Chips. The former is the premium option that unlocks shop items and costs real-life money, while the latter is the free counterpart that players can gather by simply playing the game. Naturally, there are two uses of the currencies as well as different methods to get them.

In this article, we will explore all of that in detail. Skate is the fourth installment in EA’s skateboarding video game series. As of now, the free-to-play title is in its Early Access phase with no signs of receiving a full release in the near future.

San Van Bucks are the premium currency in EA’s Skate, and players can easily identify them by their distinguished pink logo. In addition to that, the premium coins in the game are quite scarce, and players only get the option to purchase them through the in-game store by spending their real-life money. The following are the available San Van Bucks bundles in the skateboard simulation title:

  • 500 San Van Bucks – $4.99
  • 1,050 San Van Bucks – $9.99
  • 2,800 San Van Bucks – $24.99
  • 5,900 San Van Bucks – $49.99
  • 12,000 San Van Bucks – $99.99

As we mentioned, in the available Early Access version of Skate, players do not get to earn the premium currency by completing challenges and missions for now. Gamers who were part of the playtest did get 250 San Van Bucks, but that is about it. Moreover, most of the shop items are exclusive to the pink currency, so if you want any cosmetic items from there, you will inevitably have to spend some real money.

Unlike the San Van Bucks, players can earn the Rip Chips in Skate as rewards for Permanent challenges and missions. Indeed, you can get a small amount of them by completing City Challenges, but leveling up neighborhoods truly opens up opportunities for earning more and more. Also, this currency is absolutely free and available in spades. While shop items remain closed behind a wall of San Van Bucks, you can use your hard-earned Rip Chips to open product boxes instead.

Since Skate is a free-to-play title, these are the featured loot boxes that give you random items from a selective pull. Furthermore, with only 150 Rip Chips, you can get one item from the cheapest product box. Lastly, the easiest way to earn some money in Skate is to play the game. Roam around the map, complete challenges, and upgrade neighborhoods.
