Kaoson Legendary SMG makes a triumphant return in Borderlands 4, and its power remains nearly undiminished from the previous installment of the franchise. The submachine gun fires sticky grenades that latch onto their target before detonating to cause additional damage. The sheer volume of bullets and their subsequent explosions result in a massive damage output, with an easy chance to land consistent critical hits.

There are three ways in which you can get the SMG. However, defeating Primordial Guardian Origo stands as the best possible option.
- Primordial Guardian Origo – Rare drop in its loot pool
- Any world boss – Extremely rare drop chance
- Red chest – Extremely rare drop chance
Primordial Guardian Origo
The best way to obtain the Kaoson Legendary SMG is to farm the Primordial Guardian Origo boss. The submachine gun is one of three Legendary items in the boss’ loot pool, which makes defeating him the best option to obtain it.
Primordial Guardian Origo resides in the Arch of Origo Primordial Vault, which is located in the Low Keys area of Terminus Range. However, in order to access the vault and face the boss, you’ll have to collect three Vault Fragments hidden throughout the Terminus Range. The locations of these fragments are marked on the map with a large search area in Cuspid Climb, The Pit, and Windspear.
Primordial Guardian Origo has two Shield health bars, almost necessitating the use of Shock damage for the boss fight. The guardian switches between Cryo and Incendiary damage and executes a wide variety of attack moves. If you get downed, shoot down one of the Kratches spawning around the arena to get a Second Wind.

The gun’s Torgue manufacturer part, Licensed Sticky Magazine, causes it to fire sticky gyrojets that explode on reload or when switching modes. The weapon is especially suited to Rafa and Harlowe’s playstyle. Rafa’s El Paraguas skill increases splash damage and its critical chance, which applies to every Kaoson bullet explosion.
Harlowe’s Flux Generator build can also create a synergy with a high fire rate and increased critical chance. The Excited State skill transforms all attacks into critical hits if you deal Action Skill Damage. The Group Study Capstone makes all your attacks deal Action Skill Damage, synergizing with Excited State to guarantee critical hits for the Kaoson SMG.
