Overclocks in Black Ops 7 are a new feature that’s set to revolutionize the Call of Duty Multiplayer experience as we know it. This feature enables players to customize their Lethal and Tactical Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks. It will become available once players have used the aforementioned items in the game and leveled them up. Once the criteria are fulfilled, they can start customizing their equipment using the Overclocks.

These customizations further enhance the loadout. For example, in the case of Field Upgrades, using Overclocks can reduce the time to recharge them, and it could even make them more lethal in the game. So, without any further ado, let’s explore how the feature works in Black Ops 7.

How Do Overclocks in Black Ops 7 Work?

Overclocks in Black Ops 7 are integrated within the Loadout system. As discussed, they allow players to further enhance the Lethal and Tactical Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Scorestreaks. However, they won’t be unlocked by default. Upon repeated use of these pieces of equipment, they will level up, unlocking up to two Overclocks. That said, players can equip only one Overclock per item at a time.

Let’s take the example of the UAV Scorestreak for now, which is one of the most commonly used streaks in Multiplayer. Upon repeated use of this Scorestreak and leveling it up, you’ll unlock two different Overclocks for it. They are:

  • Overclock 1: Counters the first lock-on missile with a flare. Increases bullet resistance.
  • Overclock 2: Lower score cost.

You, the player, can equip only one Overclock from these two. Let’s say you equip Overclock 2. Now, you can earn UAVs in your matches at a relatively lower score streak. Likewise, if you equip Overclock 1, your UAV will become much more bullet-resistant and will not be destroyed by the first rocket from a launcher.

The same goes for Field Upgrades and other Equipment. For example, the Stim Shot Tactical Equipment also features two Overclocks. The first Overlock will give you a speed boost for a short duration upon use. Likewise, the second Overclock customization allows for instant removal of any debuffs upon using the Stim Shot.

So, simply put, the Overclock system in Black Ops 7 allows players to enhance various items in their loadouts, unlike anything before. Being able to use items in new ways and earning additional benefits is certainly a welcome addition. Since they can be customized, it gives you, the player, the freedom to decide how you would like to tweak your equipment before heading into the battle, personalizing every encounter.

That covers just about everything that you need to know about Overclocks in Black Ops 7. Players who want to experience the feature can do so in the Black Ops 7 Open Beta, which is set to kick off on October 2, 2025.
