Note: DX12 GPUs are recommended for playing this game, as they enable upscalers to be utilized to their full extent. If you are using legacy cards, such as the GTX 10 Series, consider Lossless Scaling for better results. You can also use the game’s temporal upscaler on legacy cards; it produces an incredible image quality as well.

Dying Light The Beast: Should You Use DLSS?

DLSS, particularly with the Transformer model, offers phenomenal image quality within the game. If you are playing with an entry-level GPU from the Turing and Ampere era, with very high settings at 1080p, you should resort to upscaling and use at least the balanced profile to boost your frame rate.
However, if you are on low settings and the game appears shimmery, you should use DLSS, but set the quality to DLAA. This will ensure that your game runs at native resolution, producing maximum image quality at that setting, henceforth eliminating all temporal instabilities.
Another instance where you can utilize DLSS is at super high resolutions, such as 4K, provided you are aiming for it with a modern mid-range GPU, like the 5060 Ti. Using a Quality or Balanced preset in such a scenario will produce a favorable frame rate, and the image quality will look nearly the same. In short, if you are on RTX 20 Series desktop GPU and above, absolutely use DLSS, as it is the best upscaler, and it does a phenomenal job in cleaning up the output image.
Note: Frame generation is currently broken, and hopefully the developers are working on a fix. Should you require it, rely on FSR 3.1 FG, or use Adaptive Frame-Gen via Lossless Scaling.
Dying Light The Beast: Should You Use FSR?

We mentioned that the game’s temporal upscaler does an incredible job at upscaling. This statement holds particularly for legacy cards, which are unable to use the DX12 rendering API properly. If gamers do not possess Lossless Scaling, it’s an incredible alternative.
With AMD GPUs, under similar circumstances, such as playing games with high settings on budget cards, FSR quality mode can be helpful. However, the image quality won’t be as good as DLSS.
FSR could also be beneficial for entry-level RTX laptops, such as those with GPUs like the RTX 2050A and RTX 3050 4GB, which struggle with the newer Transformer model’s demanding computational requirements. This is why we suggest using FSR with these GPUs. Although there will be a slight loss in image quality, the frame rate will be significantly better than with DLSS. Dying Light The Beast: Should You Use XeSS?

We recommend using XeSS only on Intel GPUs, as these cards have hardware acceleration for the technology. On any other GPU, it falls back to the universal DP4A shader path, and the overall image quality is softer and inconsistent. Sometimes there is noticeable shimmering within the game, and other times the image output looks to be better than FSR.
XeSS uses a similar approach to how DLSS functions, but it is not quite there yet. The image quality Intel cards on XeSS produce is significantly better than that of other GPUs.
Verdict
On Nvidia hardware, more potent than the RTX 2050/RTX 3050 (laptop-grade), using DLSS is highly recommended due to its improved image quality. Use FSR for all AMD GPUs, Legacy, and weaker hardware due to minimal performance penalty. Alternatively, the built-in upscaler also performs decently and can be used with Legacy and weaker hardware. Lastly, Intel GPU owners should use XeSS, as it performs the best, thanks to its XMX cores, which accelerate the tech.
