Techland has never shied away from tapping into pop and video game culture in the form of Easter eggs, and Dying Light The Beast is no different in that regard. Dying Light The Beast has eight Easter eggs scattered across its map.

In one way or another, these Easter eggs call back to iconic movies, video games, and comic book characters. Finding these Easter eggs, however, is a whole different hassle. They often blend in incredibly well with the environment, and you may often go hours without ever finding one. But that’s what we’re here to help you with.

1) The EXPcalibur

The first Easter egg you’ll find is ‘The EXPcalibur’ greatsword weapon. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because this was a weapon you could also acquire in the original Dying Light. In order to get your hands on this powerful weapon, you need to collect eight different stone sigils. Acquiring these sigils makes you worthy to lift and acquire the EXPcalibur. Simply head to the southeast of the monastery, and you’ll find the EXPcalibur in a cave by the waterfall.

2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The next Easter egg that Dying Light The Beast has in store for you is the Ninja Turtles. Yes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As you go about the Hydro Puzzle quest to restore Old Town’s water supply, you’ll come across a large wall in the sewers. Head inside and you’ll find large pizza boxes. This is a reference to how the turtles lived in the sewers and loved pizzas.

3) Castaway

If you remember the Tom Hanks movie Castaway, you may remember how Hanks spent a good chunk of the movie inside a makeshift tent on a raft. This makeshift setup makes its way into Dying Light The Beast as an Easter egg. You find this raft during the First Blood mission of the game while heading towards the Mist boss.

4) Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is one of the most iconic zombie IPs of all time, and Dying Light The Beast pays homage to it with an Easter egg during the New Strain quest. As you go about completing this quest, you’ll reach a section where you have to power up and secure a safe zone. While doing so, look at the wall in the basement, and you’ll find “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” painted on a wall. This calls back to the opening scene of the TV show, where Rick Grimes sees a similar message.

5) Harry Potter

Few things have had as much cultural significance as zombies in entertainment, but if you had to pick a close second, then wizards would be a good pick. Well, Dying Light The Beast pays homage to them, too, with a Harry Potter Easter egg. During the Safe Haven mission early on, head southeast of the monastery, and you’ll find an abandoned railyard with a platform, Nine and Three Quarters. This is, of course, a reference to the platform students heading to Hogwarts need to take in the Harry Potter story.

6) Minecraft

Once you’re at the Harry Potter wall, you can pass right through it just as the kids did in the movies. Head inside and you’ll then find a low-res wall made of Minecraft blocks. You can attack this wall, and it functions exactly as the walls do in Minecraft. While the exact reason for adding this Easter egg is unknown, we reckon it has something to do with the zombies you can find in Minecraft.

7) Golden Train

If you break through the Minecraft wall and follow the route ahead, you’ll run into a train that is entirely made out of gold. This is a reference to a German World War 2 legend that would tell the tale of a train of gold hidden in Poland. Considering that the game is made by Polish developers and set in Castor Woods, a place with a German aesthetic, this is likely something the developers put in as a cultural Easter egg.

8) Shrek

Another Easter egg that you can find in Dying Light The Beast is one referencing Shrek. Yes, THAT Shrek. While exploring the Memorial Hill of Heroes in search of one of the sigils for the EXPcalibur, you’ll find a wooden structure that closely resembles the home of Shrek. How and why did this Easter egg make its way into Dying Light The Beast is beyond us, but we all love Shrek, so we aren’t complaining.
