Silent Hill F is a brutal game, one where you’ll find yourself with your HP flashing red, desperately looking for a way to heal. The enemies hit hard, and it rarely takes more than 3 hits to bring you all the way down to critical HP.

Healing is an essential part of your gameplay loop, and one you must deploy strategically. The game grants you multiple tools to restore your HP and doesn’t really offer tips on when to heal. Furthermore, in the heat of battle, you may just forget how to heal entirely. If you’ve paused the game with your HP and red and are trying to recall how to heal, this guide is for you.

You heal in Silent Hill F by consuming items such as red capsules, bandages, or first aid kits. You find these items by exploring the world, and the game often leaves a few before and after certain encounters.

Keep your eyes peeled to the environment, as these items sometimes blend in incredibly well. Once you’ve acquired the aforementioned items, you can then use them by following the steps below:

  • Equip the items from the item screen (D-Pad down) and allot them to a quickslot.
  • Press LB/L1 to open the quickslot submenu.
  • Press the button corresponding to the healing item you wish to use.
  • Hinako will then be locked into a brief healing animation, and her health will be restored.

Depending on what item you use to heal, you may be locked into a painfully long healing animation. Well, painfully long is a bit of a stretch, but when the enemy is breathing down your neck, every second counts.

If you’re in the midst of combat, it is best to use the red capsules to heal. Hinako can chug these capsules in less than a second, making them the fastest way to heal. The capsules, of course, only heal a small chunk of HP, so make sure to spam the tablets to get a good chunk of health. If you’re using an item such as a bandage or a first aid kit in combat, it is best to run as far as possible before doing so. These items lock you into a long animation, making you a sitting duck.

Use these items to heal after combat, and only as a last resort to heal during combat. As far as preserving HP goes, your best bet is to run away from combat scenarios. Most combat scenarios in Silent Hill F are optional, so use this fact to your advantage. If you can’t run away from an enemy, try to play defensively and use counterattacks. This will let you play it safe, and you’ll preserve a ton of HP in the long run.

How To Increase Your HP

If you find your health critically low too often, it is time to upgrade your HP and increase the health pool. You can do so by visiting any shrine and pressing the Pray button. This button allows you to upgrade your stats, and health is one of the first stats you should invest heavily into. We also suggest using charms with healing effects whenever possible.
