Complete the main story of Borderlands 4 with Secrets of the Vault and learn how to defeat Arjay in the final boss fight.
Secrets of the Vault is the 21st and final main mission in Borderlands 4 that begins immediately after your victory over the Timekeeper in The Timekeeper’s Order. It features a boss fight with an intriguing and unexpected villain. With Kairos freed from the Timekeeper’s oppressive rule, you head through the portal in Upper Dominion that leads to his Vault. However, you are intercepted by a frenzied Arjay in the Phase.
Borderlands 4: How To Defeat Arjay in Secrets of the Vault
Arjay, the final story boss in Borderlands 4, is a mobile adversary with several Phase attacks.
- Arjay has three health bars: shield, armor, and flesh.
- Shoot at Arjay’s head to land critical hits.
- When Arjay sprouts pink wings, prepare to face Phase attacks. He can also leap long distances and reposition using them.
- Arjay often charges directly at you with his knife. Kite him while aiming for his head.
- If you get downed, shoot the Psychos Arjay spawns to secure a Second Wind.

| Tethering Crystal | The boss creates a crystal that restricts your movement with an energy beam | Shoot down the crystal to regain mobility |
| Phase Rifts | Arjay creates rifts that spawn Psychos and launch attacks around them | Shoot at the rifts to close them. You can ignore them, and they will close of their own accord soon |
You can repeat the boss fight using Moxxi’s Big Encore machine in Upper Dominion. While Arjay does not have a dedicated pool of Legendary drops, he has a small chance to drop Legendary gear, similar to a red chest.

Loot the Vault
After you defeat Arjay, Lilith will draw you out of the Phase. You’ve finally reached the entrance of the Timekeeper’s real Vault. Loot all the chests around and speak with Lilith. Jump across the platforms Lilith levitates, and reach the Vault.
Here, the Mysterious Voice tells you that the Vault is a place at the end of time. She materializes in front of the Vault and gives you a mysterious object called the Deodand to survive the coming calamity.
Interact with the rift to return to Moxxi’s bar and complete Secrets of the Vault. You have now unlocked Specializations, which you can earn by collecting XP, providing powerful bonuses to maximize your builds’ potential.
