You begin the quest when Starchild, one of the NPCs in the Exiles’ Cave, asks you to talk to him. The first order of business is to get to the cave and speak with him about a unique situation. He explains that there is a location on the map where the Exiles’ telepathic abilities are not working.

Starchild feels something is blocking the power in that area and wants Kyle to investigate. After the conversation ends, the quest updates, and you need to head to a rail yard east of the Exiles’ Cave. Don’t worry, there is a clear map marker you can follow to get there.

Investigating the Rail Yard

As you make your way to the marked rail yard, you will find a car wreckage with infected surrounding it. Several toxin-spitting ones are here, including a large one. After taking them down, you can investigate the car to find a woman inside. The woman, Emma, manages to mumble and ask Kyle to help her son, who is in the nearby tunnel.

Before Kyle can ask more, she dies. Starchild provides more information and tells you that her son’s name is Rick. They were part of the Exiles for a while but eventually split. Your next task is to look for Rick.

Getting To the Tunnel

Move toward the new quest marker. As you approach, you will find several of the Baron’s men. Once again, you must eliminate them all before proceeding into the rail tunnel. You will discover the men already engaging with infected, which you can use to your advantage to take them down more easily.

By this point in the game, you should not have much trouble fighting off these enemies. Once they are dispatched, you can proceed toward the tunnel. Before entering, Kyle hears a voice in his head asking for help. Crouch underneath some obstacles to reach the tunnel door.

As you enter the tunnel, you will find infected scattered throughout the halls. However, they are docile, as the mysterious voice informs you. Quickly proceed through this area. Before reaching a double door, Kyle will pick up explosives from the corpse of one of the Baron’s men. Continue deeper into the tunnel until it opens into a cave. Follow the marker to reach a small gap between two rocks. Squeeze through it, and you will immediately be attacked by a couple of infected. Defeat them and head toward the center of the room.

Talking With Rick

In the room, you will find Rick merged into an infected hive mind. The mysterious voice comes from this entity. Rick and Emma were performing experiments to control the infected, but the experiments backfired, and the swarm eventually gained control of Emma’s son. As you approach, the entity asks Kyle to join it too.

When Kyle calls out to Rick during the conversation, the boy briefly responds before the swarm takes over again. Eventually, Rick begs Kyle to kill him and free him from his nightmare. When Kyle shoots the entity, all the infected you encountered since entering the tunnel will turn hostile and rush toward you.

Setting the Charges

After the cutscene, your new objective will be to set four explosive charges at different points in the cave and tunnel. This might sound simple, but an enormous swarm of infected will try to overwhelm you at every step. You must hold them off while setting the charges.

  • The first charge you have to set is within the same area where Rick was.
  • Set the second charge inside a room to the right just as you climb back up the cave and into the tunnel.
  • Now, take the stairs down from the second point and run through a hallway on the left. At the very end of this hallway is the location where you’ll set the third charge.
  • Finally, move past the third point and open a set of double doors. Proceed down the stairs and take the door to your right. You will return to the entrance of the tunnel, where you must set the final charge.

After setting the charges in order, head out of the tunnel and set off the explosion.

Return to Starchild

With the tunnel and cave system destroyed, you must return to Starchild to finish the For Your Mind Only quest in Dying Light The Beast. Thankfully, there is a vehicle right outside the tunnel that you can use to get back to the Exiles’ Cave. Report what you found in the tunnel to him. He will not be pleased that you destroyed the cave and everything inside, but Kyle explains there was no alternative.
