Pumping is one of the most essential skills in EA’s latest title, Skate, and it helps you maintain your speed and acceleration. However, despite its significance, players will not find it in the Skatepedia, since it is not recognized as a trick that can be used to complete a quest, earn Rep, and level up your neighborhood. Still, mastering how to Pump properly can elevate your prowess in the streets of Vansterdam, especially on ramps and similar platforms. Here’s how to do it.

The first step to Pump in Skate is to find a suitable place in the city of Vansterdam, as it works better on steep paths or streets with curves. Surprisingly, the starting lobby in the game, introduced during the Tutorial, is a great place to practice this move. Ideally, any area with ramps should work, but if you are not in a location that has them, you can use the following method.

To practice Pump in Skate, you can create a halfpipe on your own. To do this, press the right button on the d-pad of your controller to go to the Object Browser, then take some Quarter Pipe and M Wood pieces and place them in the game. After successfully creating an appropriate structure, you can start to pump.

Pumping is one of the simplest actions in EA’s Skate. To perform it, press and hold RT/R2 or LT/L2 on your respective controller and in-game stance while in the middle of the pipe during transitions to gain and maintain acceleration. However, like other moves in Skate, timing is crucial; otherwise, your character will fall off the skateboard or lose momentum.

In addition, we suggest turning on the Anti-Pumping option under Trick Toggles. This allows you to check how well you performed the pump at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Best Settings for Pumping in Skate

To make the fourth entry in EA’s skateboard simulation franchise accessible to everyone, the developers provided multiple assist options. If you struggle with Pump timing in the game, you can tweak some settings to make it easier. Set the following values to improve your ability to maintain pace without worrying too much about timing or precision:

  • Vert Pump Assist: 50
  • Enable Semi-Auto Pumping: On
  • Forward to Pump: On
  • Anti-Pumping: On

These options can be found in the Gameplay menu under various tabs such as Assists, Control, and Trick Toggles. Additionally, you can adjust the Vert Pump to increase or decrease pumping power according to your preference.
