Hunting The Yaga

The side quest for Hunting Yaga can be started after you reach the Abandoned House Safe Zone in the National Park, and then talk to Max. He wants you to eliminate a special zombie named Yaga that shows up only during the night and offers his crossbow Lizzy as a reward. Nighttime in Dying Light The Beast is a dangerous place, and the National Park is full of Volatiles. With limited vision, you will have to hunt Yaga down.

After you wake up at night, Yaga’s location is pinged on your map, just south of the forest. You’ll face many Volatiles along the way and must be careful while sneaking, making sure your light sources are minimal and your footsteps are quiet. It is recommended to only switch your lights on when necessary.

Sneaking your way to some distance, you get a message from Max that Yaga’s steps trace to a wrecked vehicle in the distant upper side of the forest. You’ll encounter a horde of Volatiles and the Infected together. Avoid them and sneak till you reach the car.

Inspect the dead soldier’s body in the car, and use your Survival Senses to trace Yaga’s footsteps. Hide from the zombies and progress. The path winds down, and you’ll find out the Yaga is just another zombie.

After spotting Yaga, take it down quickly, along with any nearby zombies that come close. You’ll get the Achievement Trophy after looting it, and then you can head back to a safe zone to rest.

The Real Motive Behind the Hunt

Max sends you a message to meet him at a shack near the substation on your map. The Baron’s soldiers will have surrounded the hut, and you’ll have to take them out.

Head to the back of the shack and spot a plate that you can move aside. After breaking the window and going in, you’ll find a wounded Max on the floor.

Head outside and start tracking the vehicle prints using your Survival Senses. Eventually, you’ll end up in an abandoned cabin in the middle of the river, right below the hillside.

Eliminate the Baron’s men, preferably taking down the Sniper first. Head inside and talk to the Scientist.

You’ll have two choices here: spare or kill the Scientist. He explains his reasons as they were trying to revive Yaga, and not kill Max and his family. So, killing him won’t bring Max’s wife back. If you spare him, you’ll receive 500 Old World Money. Killing him has no extra rewards.

After you head back to the Abandoned House Safe House, you’ll find Max’s corpse along with a message, thanking you for choosing to accept the quest.
