In this guide, we’ll explore how you can find one of the hidden characters, Monke in Megabonk, inside the Forest Map.
Monke in Megabonk is one of the hidden characters that you can unlock over time. However, unlike many of the other characters, you don’t just do that by spending some Silver at the Unlock menu.
Instead, you’ll have to locate him during one of your runs in a specific map and then release him. After that. the character will join you. In the following guide, we’ll explore how you can find Monke and other useful tips for unlocking this character.
Unlocking Monke in Megabonk
You will need to begin a run in the Forest Map of the game. You’ll then need to explore the entire map thoroughly. The character doesn’t appear in any of the other maps. You should explore the hidden corners and the side paths in search of Monke. We also suggest getting the speed upgrades before attempting to find the character. These upgrades will enable you to explore more of the map before the swamp timer pushes you forward.
Eventually, you’ll be able to spot him inside a cage. Interacting with the cage should open it only if you possess the Golden Key. After unlocking the cage and releasing Monke, you’ll gain access to the character after your current run ends. You will need to release Monke from the cage only once.
After that, the character will be available perpetually for your subsequent runs. You will also unlock the Monke achievement for completing this hidden character unlock. However, if you don’t own the Golden Key, you’ll have to find that first.

Getting the Golden Key
There isn’t really any trick to finding the Golden Key. It appears randomly in the world, and there’s no specific spot where the key drops. So, you’ll just have to keep an eye out, especially on the ground of a map since that’s where the Golden Key appears in most cases.
Monke Abilities
Once you unlock Monke in Megabonk, you can start playing as him from your next run. The character has the following abilities and weapons.
- Bananarang: It’s a boomerang but in the form of a banana. Monke can throw it at enemies, and the Bananarang will return to him every time.
- Monke Grip: This is a special ability that Monke has, using which the character can scale up walls. Also, with every level that Monke gains, he’ll also get +2 HP.
