Having trouble with errors in Silent Hill F on ultrawide resolution? Here’s the cause and the possible fix for the situation.

Silent Hill F supports Ultrawide resolution, but it can sometimes cause errors during cutscenes. This resolution works perfectly during gameplay. However, when it comes to cutscenes, you may spot black bars. This is because the FOV does not work well with the aspect ratio for ultrawide resolutions.
Fortunately, there is a way to fix these issues. The community came up with a third-party patch that aims to improve the scaling for ultrawide resolutions and improve the gameplay experience. Here is a guide for possible fixes for the Silent Hill F ultrawide error on PC and the reasons why this is happening.

How To Fix Silent Hill Ultrawide Issues on PC

This patch comes from Lyall, which aims to fix the ultrawide issues that PC players are facing in Sileng Hill F:
Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can install it:
- Head to the official Codeberg link.
- Find the SHFix zip file and download it. The version may vary if the author makes an updated patch.
- Check if Silent Hill F is not running in the background.
- Extract the content of the zip file you downloaded to the installation directory of the game. The location may vary based on your launcher.
Once the process is complete, launch Silent Hil F. The black bars you see, which are letterboxing and pillarboxing, should disappear during cutscenes. Keep in mind that, along with fixing the ultrawide issue in the game, it also includes the following extra optimizations:
- Unlocks the console feature in the game.
- Improves the cropped FOV.
- Cutscenes are no longer limited to 30 FPS.
- Allows for skipping intro logos and warnings.
- Includes support for resolutions narrower than the 16:10 ratio.

How To Remove or Disable the Patch
If you want to remove the patch, you can simply delete the files that were added by the zip file. Alternatively, you can open SHfFix.ini and replace all “True” values with “False”. Of course, you don’t have to disable all the features. If you want some features of the patch, you can set them to “True,” and leave the rest to “False.”
