You will find the Black Bird and Sword Plate in Silent Hill F as a small wooden block, but it’s more than it looks. One side has a black bird painted on it, and the other side shows a katana. This isn’t just a collectible; it’s needed for the My Room puzzle in Shimizu Residence. Without it, you can’t arrange all the crests correctly and move forward in the story.

How To Get the Black Bird and Sword Plate in Silent Hill F
You won’t get these items in Silent Hill F right away. First, you need to reach Chapter 10 and enter Shimizu Residence III. The plate sits behind a locked door, and to open it, you need the Fletching Key.
Start by going to Hinako’s childhood room in the northeastern corner. On a blood-stained shelf, you will find her diary hiding a Block of Wax. Then head to the kitchen on the western side of the map and grab the Propane Tube on the table.
Next, go back to Shimizu Residence I’s kitchen in the southwest section. Connect the propane tube to the stove and melt the Block of Wax. Inside, you will find the Fletching Key.
With the key in hand, return to the door marked with a bird in Shimizu Residence III. Unlock it, and a short cutscene with Hinako’s parents will play. After that, the Black Bird and Sword Plate will be sitting on the table, ready for you to pick up.

How To Use the Black Bird and Sword Plate
Once you have it, the Black Bird and Sword Plate’s main job is in the My Room puzzle on Hinako’s bedroom door. Where you place it depends on which ending you are aiming for.
- For the Coming Home to Roost ending, put it on the right side.
- For Fox’s Wedding, put it on the right, but flip the sword.
- For Fox Wets Its Tail, you don’t use it at all.
- In Ebisugaoka in Silence, it goes back to the right.
Once you leave Shimizu Residence, you can’t get this plate again, so make sure you use it in the puzzle before leaving.
