Learn which Pokemon TCG decks from the Mega Evolution expansion can do well in tournaments while also being on a budget.
In the Pokemon TCG, budget decks are often worthwhile because of the low cost of entry. While the Mega Evolution expansion is fairly new, there are Pokemon cards that will cost less compared to others, considering the reintroduction of Mega Pokemon ex. So building a deck around these cards will definitely be cheaper.
Best Pokemon TCG Budget Decks From The Mega Evolution Set
These decks are relatively cheaper to assemble because their core is set around cards that are not Mega Evolution Pokemon:
- Cinderace
- Shedinja
- Tinkaton
- Meganium
- Alakazam
5) Cinderace
Cinderace (~$0.12) is a Stage 2 card that can be played immediately from your hand while you are setting up. Additionally, its move, Turbo Flare, will let you attach three Basic Energy cards to your Benched Pokemon in any way you like. Therefore, this card can be used in any deck you want, as it can help set up most Pokemon on the Bench with whatever Energy you need.
4) Shedinja
Shedinja (~$0.09) is a card that prevents the opponent from taking a Prize if it is KOd by a Pokemon ex. It works well with other indirect damage dealers like Munkidori (~$0.55), Uxie (~$0.1), and Froslass (~$0.16), as it deals more damage to the opponent depending on the damage they have already taken. As such, it should be easy to build a deck around it with common Trainer and Energy cards.
3) Tinkaton
Tinkaton (~$0.13) deals 240 damage but this damage drops depending on the amount of Energy the opposing Active Pokemon has attached to it. The cards that work well with it are Tinkatuff from the same expansion and Crushing Hammer, which can help remove Energy. These are generally less than $0.15. So building an effective deck around it will not set you back much.
2) Meganium
Meganium is an amazing card from Mega Evolution that will see a lot of use in the meta. However, as it has the potential to work with any Grass-type deck imaginable, you can build a cheap version of this deck that’s still effective. Some of the more costlier cards it needs include Forest of Vitality (~$0.5), Teal Mask Ogerpon ex (~$2.00), and Hydrapple ex (~$0.60). So you should be able to make a deck that will be competitive at around $20.
1) Alakazam
Alakazam (~$0.23) is probably the best single Prize attacker from Mega Evolution. It might even be the best single Prize attacker in the meta right now. Some of the important cards that you want to play alongside Alakazam include Kadabra (~$0.18), Dudunsparce (~$0.13), and Enriching Energy (~$0.87). All of those are relatively cheap. Even one of the more expensive cards, the Supporter Hilda from White Flare, costs around $3.00. So you could maybe squeeze a copy or two in and still be within a budget of under $30. You could even skip Hilda and lower the costs to under $20. Either way, an Alakazam deck will be effective both in terms of cost and competitive value.
