Super Fantasy Kingdom is an early access city builder on Steam with a rouguelite mechanic. In the game, you play as a king who oversees your kingdom and manages your people’s day-to-day activities. On top of that, you will also be in charge of managing your kingdom’s resources and taking care of the heroes that serve you. There is a lot of micromanaging to do in this game.

With that said, here is a beginner’s guide for the Super Fantasy Kingdom and some tips and tricks to get started.

Booting up the game, you’ll notice a lot of information in the user interface. This can be overwhelming at first, but once you understand each of them, they are not that complicated. Here is a quick rundown of your user interface.

Hero Portrait

The picture with a heart, shield, and XP icon beside is the hero information section; It is visible on the top-left corner of the screen. Your hero is the most crucial part of your kingdom. If they die, your run is basically over. Supervise them and ensure they’re well-fed, ready to serve you.

Kingdom Stats

Right above the hero portrait are your kingdom stats. From the left, here is a quick rundown of what the numbers mean:

  • Kingdom Level: Reaching higher levels unlocks better items and new heroes.
  • Shards: Have multiple purposes, including crafting certain items, cleansing monuments, and more. Can be acquired through the Bounty Board or by defeating bosses.
  • Banish: Shows how many times you Banish the day. If you make crucial mistakes like your hero dying, you can reset the day and try to prevent it from happening.

Taxes and Faith

To the right of the Kingdom Stats section is where you can find information about your taxes and faith. Every day, you can choose to collect Taxes or Faith from your people. Taxes can be used to purchase various items or recruit heroes. Meanwhile, Faith is used to upgrade heroes.

Available Workers and Carriers

Heading to the top centre, you can find information on how many idle personnel you have. You will need to have most of them working on something to keep your kingdom from falling apart. Assign them jobs so they can be of use to you.

Kingdom Resources

In the middle of the user interface are the resources you gain as your people work. There are six types of resources you can use to recruit heroes, build structures, or expand your kingdom.

Hero Satisfaction Bar

Keeping your hero well-fed and happy makes them loyal to you. This section will provide information on their meals, happiness, and beer. Here is a quick rundown of what each stat does:

  • Meal (Apple Icon) – Each day, a hero will consume a specific meal to level up.
  • Happiness – The happier they are, the more damage your units can deal, and increases the experience gain.
  • Beer – Providing beverages can increase the stats of your units.

Glory

Every 10 kills, you gain one Glory point, which you can check beside the trophy icon. This can be used to expand your Kingdom. This means you get more space for building various structures.

World Information

The circular part of the user interface at the right-most section is where you find a lot of information about your world. This includes the map, time of day, and various events happening.

Super Fantasy Kingdom Tips and Tricks

Super Fantasy Kingdom Tips and Tricks
Hold off on building a quarry until you have a stable early game economy. (Image via Hooded Horse)

1) Spend Resources Wisely

On your first day, aim to hit Tier 2 or Tier 3 Castle. Accumulate around 4 Wood, 3 Stone, 1 Wheat, and 2 Gold, if possible. Of course, you don’t have to hit the mark. However, this is a good starting point if you want a smoother early game.

2) Capitalize on the Witch Benefits

At the start of the game, you are granted one starting item or a boon by the witch. However, you can spend Blue Stones to have a second witch. Do this as soon as possible so you won’t struggle so much in the early game. Try and get a good balance between resources and combat benefits.

To summarize, your main goal in the early game is to secure enough food for your units and establish a stable economy as quickly as possible. Aim to have at least two witches and a port built early on. Gathering resources to reach this point may feel slow at first. But once everything is set up, your progression will start to accelerate.

3) Build Priority

There are buildings and units you will want to focus on acquiring before anything else. As mentioned above, hit Castle Tier 3 so you can unlock more options to establish your kingdom. Afterward, construct a house for workers and set outposts

As for units, try and recruit a monk on your first day. This unit provides support for your other units, especially when you are managing a human kingdom for the Holy attribute. Additionally, build a fisher hut and a forager for food. This will auto-feed your monk and other units so they don’t go hungry and be less efficient.

Avoid setting up a quarry too early in your playthrough. Try and focus your attention on gathering wood and turning it into boards. With enough wood, get yourself a Sawmill before getting your second Peasant Hut

Once you have a somewhat stable kingdom, build a church. This will increase the faith of your people. If you have some extra resources, build a port. Otherwise, set up a second fisher hut.
