In Duet Night Abyss, you get to play as one of your unlocked characters and summon your other units as allies, also known as combat partners, in battle. However, unlike other RPG titles, you don’t get to control your allies’ movements. They move on their own while you control your primary character. Nonetheless, having some extras helping you in runs can be game-changing.

That said, there are ways to take advantage of this feature. Here is a guide on how you can equip and summon allies in Duet Night Abyss.

How To Equip and Summon Combat Partners in Duet Night Abyss

Equipping Combat Partners

You can set your preferred combat partners by equipping their respective tokens in the Tactical Backpack. Make sure you also give them a weapon before deploying them to battle. You can equip each companion with one weapon and associated gear, such as Demon Wedges or other modules. Unlike your primary character, Combat Partners can only carry one weapon with them.

This means you need to be smart about who you will be deploying. Keep in mind that the amount of party will vary depending on the content you run. You can only have two companions at a time during solo play. However, in online co-op, each player can only have one combat partner. If you don’t have characters or weapons to spare, collect Secret Letters and start grinding.

Summoning Allies

To summon combat partners, you can simply pull up your Tactical Backpack. Afterward, select the tokens representing the characters you want to call. They will appear and start supporting you in battle. You don’t have to do anything, as they mostly move by themselves. This means you can focus on your own tasks and let them do their job.

Alternatively, you can also set them to deploy automatically. On easier stages, you can even summon them and just let them clear it without you having to do anything.

When to Use Combat Partners?

Here are a few instances as to when you would want to use combat partners in Duet Night Abyss:

  • Farming/grinding missions: Since stamina isn’t a limiter, you’ll often want to run repeatable content. Allies let you sustain runs even if you don’t actively control every moment.
  • Missions with fewer movement demands: If the map allows you to stay relatively static, like waves of enemies coming your way, then your allies will perform reliably while you rest or multitask.
  • Supporting your carry: If your main character is built for burst and you’re waiting for a cooldown or gearing up for the next big play, an ally can keep pressure on enemies in the meantime.
  • Leveling up secondary characters: Sometimes, you might want to give a weaker or secondary character time to earn progression through being an active ally.
