Duet Night Abyss features a healthy roster of characters, and now that the game is free of its gacha elements, you can get your hands on them for free. While the characters may be free, the game’s abundance of menus and features makes the whole process of getting a new character very complicated.
If you’re looking to unlock new characters to keep things fresh for your playthrough, this article is here to help. In this article, we shall detail the process of unlocking new characters using Secret Letters, one of the most valuable items in the game.
How To Unlock New Characters in Duet Night Abyss
Find Secret Letters
You can unlock new characters in Duet Night Abyss by acquiring Character Secret Letters. These letters are all unique and tied to a character in the game. If you’re looking to unlock a specific character, you have to farm and acquire their letters.
To get these Secret Letters, you have to gather Secret Letter Clues, which then add up to give you the Secret Letters. You can acquire these clues by completing the Daily Commisions, taking on the main story quests, grinding out the side quests, or simply farming the regular enemies in dungeons.
As you go about farming and discover 10 clues, you can then head to the in-game shop and use your hard-earned clues to obtain the Secret Letter you want. If you can’t find the character you seek here, complete the Immersive Theater and Nocturnal Echoes activities to unlock them.

Complete Covert Commissions
Now that you have your Secret Letters, you want to open them, for which you need to participate in the Covert Commissions. These are short missions you unlock early on in the game, and cycle on an hourly basis. Pick a letter and kick off the Covert Commission. Complete this activity and you’ll then earn rewards:
- Gold Tier with 10 Thoughts.
- Silver Tier with 2 Thoughts.
- Bronze Tier grants Character EXP Materials.
Once you’ve farmed and acquired 30 Thoughts for a character, head over to the Armory screen. You can then use Reminiscience to unlock the character.
