You can get pets in the game primarily in three ways:

  • Completing quests: NPCs might reward you with a pet after you’ve helped them. So, make sure you keep completing as many main and side quests as you can discover. Sooner or later, you’re bound to run into a quest that rewards you with a brand new pet.
  • Buying from merchants: You can also speak with the various merchant NPCs you meet on your journey. Some of them might have a cuddly small friend for you to take home back to your ship. However, keep in mind that you can’t get pets from vending machines. Also, you’ll need to shell out quite a bit of cash for these purchases.
  • From the Premium Edition: If you own the Premium Edition of the game, you’ll get an exclusive pet free of cost after completing the Prologue section.

How To Manage Pets

You should know that even though there are multiple pets that you can adopt in the game, you can have only one of them active at a time. You get to decide which of your pets run around inside the Incognito. To choose your preferred pet, simply head to the ground floor of your ship. Once there, enter the room with the many lockers to locate the Pet Feeder device. Interact with this device when you have more than one pet in your collection. A list will appear with all of your pets. Now, you can freely select which of your friends you want to appear on board the ship.

Note: You won’t be able to interact with the Pet Feeder unless you own at least two pets. So, you’ll need to find another pet before you can access the Premium Edition exclusive pet.

Collecting five pets, whether from quests or from merchants will unlock the Hatchling Catcher trophy for you. At this point, the game seems to have 11 pets available for you to collect in total. So, get cracking and bring them all back to your ship. These creatures, alongside your companions, will make the Incognito feel much livelier.
